  2. 2. INTRODUCTION DIGITAL RESOURCE It seems that the days of the Socratic teacher are fast fading. The digital world gives everyone an opportunity to find his or her own expert, not necessarily in the classroom. The Internet and other digital resources provide students and teachers with the means to reach out to the world and extract the information that they find most interesting, whatever it may be. In the classroom there are many things that the students know more about their teachers, simply because the students can do research that was once tedious and required many trips to the library, yet now only needs a few clicks of the mouse. Digital resources are resources that provide information about content through CD, DVD and Websites. COMPACT DISC [CD] Compact disc is a digital optical disc data storage format. The format was originally developed to store and play only sound recordings but was later adapter for storage of data (CD –ROM). Several other formats were further derived from these, including write –once audio and data storage (CD- R), rewritable media (CD-RW), video compact disc (VCD), Super Video Compact Disc (SVCD), photo CD, picture CD, CD-i, and Enhanced music CD, Audio CDs , audio CD players have been commercially available since October 1982. Standard CDs have a diameter of 120 millimeters (4.7in) and can hold up about 80 minutes of uncompressed audio or about 700MiB of data .The mini CD has various diameters ranging from 60 to 80 millimeters (2.4 to 3.1 in) they are sometimes used for CD singles ,storing up to 24 minutes of audio or delivering device drivers. At the time of the technology’s introduction in 1982, a personal computer hard drive .By 2010, hard drives commonly had capacities exceeding those of CDs by a factor of several thousand. In 2004, worldwide sales of audio CDs , CD-ROMs and CD-Rs reached about 30 billion discs .By 2007 ,200 billion CDs had been sold worldwide .CDs are increasingly being replaced by other forms of digital storage and distribution with the result that audio CD sales rates in the us have dropped about 50% from their peak , however ,they remain one of the primary distribution methods for the music industry.

DIGITAL VERSATILE DISC OR DIGITAL VIDEO DISC [DVD] DVD is a digital optical disc storage format invented and developed by Philips , Sony, Toshiba and Panasonic in 1995 .The medium can store any kind of digital data and is widely used for software and other computer files as well as video programs watched using DVD players .DVDs offer higher storage capacity than compact disc while having the same dimensions. Pre –recorded DVDs are mass produced using molding machines that physically stamp data in to the DVD, Such discs are a form of DVD.ROMs because data can only be read and not written or erased .Blank recordable DVD discs (DVD-R and DVD +R) can be recorder and then function as a DVD- ROM .Rewritable DVDs (DVD –RW , DVD+ RW and DVD –RAM ) can be recorded and erased many times. DVDs are used in DVD .Video consumer digital video format and in DVD- Audio consumer digital audio format as well as for authoring DVD discs written in a special AVCHD format to hold high definition material .DVDs contain other types of information may be referred to as DVD data discs.

WEBSITE It can also written as website ,or simply site .It is a set of related webpages typically served from a single web domain .A web site is hosted on at least one web server , accessible via a network such as the internet address known as a uniform resources locator (URL) . All publicly accessible websites collectivity constitute the World Wide Web. Web pages, which are the building blocks of websites, are documents, typically written in plain text interspersed with formatting instruction of Hypertext Markup Language(HTML< XHTML)). They may incorporate elements from other websites with suitable markup anchors. Web pages are accessed and transported with the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP), which may optionally employ encryption (HTTP secure, HTTPS) to provide security and privacy for the user of the webpage content. The user’s application often a web browser, renders and page content according to its HTML markup instructions onto a display terminal; The pages of a website can usually be accessed from the Simple Uniform Resource Locator (URL) called the web address. The URL’s of the pages organize the to a hierarchy although hyperlinking between them conveys the readers perceived site structure and guides the readers navigation of the site which generally includes a homepage with most of the links to the sites web content and a supplementary about, contact and link pages. Some websites require a subscription to access some or all their content. Examples of subscription website include many business sites, parts of new websites, academic journal websites, gaming website etc. CONCLUSION The digital world has blurred the walls of the schools and places of learning. Individual learners can learn anywhere anytime and at their own pace. We have always had some children that use broad community resources, but the ease of doing it today is greater than ever. Technology extends our communications ability beyond face-to-face talking. It expands it beyond the printed page and reading to a new dimension. It is building a new and more efficient means of sharing ideas and information among all people.
