  3. 3. Some of the input devices are:-<br />Keyboard<br />Mouse<br />Scanner<br />Joystick<br />Webcam<br />Microphone<br />OCR- Optical Character Reader<br />MICR- Magnetic Ink Character Reader<br />
  4. 4. keyboard<br />The most commonly used input device is Keyboard.<br />Key board is invented by Mr.Sholes.<br />Normal keyboard contains 101 to 108 keys.<br />Multimedia keyboard has 124 keys.<br />Keyboard is logically divided into 3 parts.<br />Alphanumeric keys.<br /> Special keys.<br /> Functional keys.<br />
  5. 5. mouse<br />Mouse is also called as Pointing device.<br />Mouse is invented by Douglas Engelbert at the Stanford Research Institute.<br />Mouse consists of 3 buttons.<br />Left button<br />Right button &<br />Scroller<br />There are two types of mouse.<br />Optical mouse &<br />Roller mouse<br />
  6. 6. scanner<br />Scanner is also an input device which is used to scan the document & edit the same.<br />Uses<br /> Scanner is a device which is used in nuclear radiation , magnetic fields, sound waves or light to examine interior or exterior surfaces or tissues..<br />

Webcam<br />Webcam was first developed in CambridgeUniversity, Computer Science Department in1991.<br />A webcam is a video camera which feeds its images in real time to a computer or computer network, often via USB, ethernet or Wi-Fi.<br />Their most popular use is the establishment of video links, permitting computers to act as videophones or video conference stations.<br />Other popular uses include security surveillance & computer vision.<br />
  8. 8. microphone<br />In 1876, Emile Berliner invented the first microphone used as a telephone voice transmitter.<br />Microphones are used in many applications such as <br />Telephones<br />Tape recorders<br />Hearing aids<br />Speech recognition<br />Motion pictures production<br />Live & recorded audio engineering<br />In computers for recording voice<br />Megaphones<br />In radio & television broadcasting <br />
  9. 9. Joystick<br />Joystick is also an input device.<br />It is similar to controlling device in airplane. <br />It is used to play games.<br />
