OMMS Parish School Bulletin 6-12-2014

  1. 1. PRINCIPAL NOTES…. SPRING PROGRAM.... With the Serra Center filled with families and friends the students within our Primary, Transition and Junior Elementary classrooms provided an engaging performance, complete with uniquely designed T-Shirts! Hopefully everyone enjoyed last Thursday evening, watching and listening to all of the children; they certainly enjoyed sharing their musical accomplishments with their attentive audience! WE thank all of the students and teachers for their work and YOU for attending! OMMS AWARDS ASSEMBLY All within OMMS plus numerous parents gathered in the Serra Center on Monday to applaud student accomplishments for this incredibly swift school year! This is an annual tradition, where all are present to acknowledge our teachers; our departing eighth graders; all classes for their contributions toward stewardship/service and building community; recognition of our OMMS Altar Servers, who serve the school and parish; our OMMS Choir; awards for Computer Science; our Sports Teams and our very dedicated Coaches; our Student Council; and our EIGHTH GRADE Mentors who then presented awards to the Primary, Transition and Junior Elementary students…….all were recognized and applauded for their work this school year! Congratulations to everyone and we look forward to witnessing their accomplishments next year! FAREWELL…. On Tuesday evening we gathered in the Chapel, shared final words that hopefully will leave a lasting The End of Another School Year Prayer O God of all beginnings and endings, We praise and thank you for the gift of this school year. It has been a time filled with grace and blessings, With challenges and opportunities, joys, and sorrows. The days have passed quickly, O Lord. The weeks, the months, the seasons, the holidays, and holy days, The tests, vacations, projects, and field trips, All have come forth from your hand. While we trust that your purposes have always been at work each day, Sometimes it has seemed difficult to understand and appreciate Just what you have been up to in our school. Give us the rest and refreshment we need this summer. Let our efforts of this past year bear fruit. Bring all of our plans to a joyful conclusion, And bless us, according to your will, With the fulfillment of our summer hopes and dreams. Watch over us in the weeks of rest ahead, And guide each day as you have done this past year. Help us return to school with a new spirit and a new energy. May we continue to grow In age, wisdom, knowledge, and grace All the days of our lives. Amen. CONGRATULATIONS Lauren B.; Antonio B.; Kevin D.; Grace F.; Angelina G.; Taylor H.; Noelle H.; Alexis L.; Lea M.; Mark M.; Minh Chau N.; Katherine N.; Ximena O.; Savanna P.; Mateo R.; and Theresa R.; our OMMS Graduates for 2014! May their continued journey be filled with blessings, confidence and the continued pursuit of knowledge always united with their roots of FAITH!! Many, many thanks are extended to all of our 7th and 8th grade families for ensuring that this was a memorable occasion for our graduates…..your time, and efforts are greatly appreciated by ALL! Reflections and Echoes…….. What began in September is now quickly coming to an end…..difficult to contemplate that Friday is the final day of school! If one had the ability to “playback” the events of the year much like a movie clip, I believe each frame would conjure up a smile or two with memories of your child or children; often pausing to reflect upon the changes that have transpired in less than a year. As WE collectively reflect on yet another eventful year it brings to mind how truly blessed our school is; it is amazing to be part of such a generous, energetic community, one that continues to benefit all current children attending OMMS as well as future students! Therefore from all of US to all of YOU …….THANK YOU! Our HALLS, CLASSROOMS and PLAYGROUNDS will soon be empty, but the energy, laughter, and enthusiasm for learning within our community will “echo” until September comes again. May God gift each with a fabulous, fun-filled family summer and we look forward to seeing all during Christmas in July! I scream; you scream, we all scream for Ice Cream….. Don’t forget to join us as we celebrate the end of another year with that delicious treat enjoyed by one and all…..ICE CREAM! On Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m. please join us in the Junior Elementary Playground to select your favorite topping and enjoy some well deserved social time! Hope to see you there. Final Blessing on Friday…..last day of this school year We will gather one last time for this school year in the Chapel on Friday for a Prayer Service and blessings for the summer. Friday will be an early dismissal day with NO EXTENDED CARE; all students will be dismissed at 12:30 and 12:45 p.m. for the 4th – 7th grade. Have a wonderful beginning of summer, rest so we can work and visit during Christmas in July, then enjoy the remainder of summer so we can see one and all in the fall! SUMMER HOURS…… Our school office will be closed after Friday, but for your convenience the office will be opened on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 – 4:30 p.m. during the summer. CHRISTMAS IN JULY….IS ON THE HORIZON Christmas in July is another long standing tradition/fundraiser, one that has developed and expanded over the years, but one OMMS has now become financially dependent upon to support operational costs. Our school relies on the funds generated from this important fundraiser and it requires many hands to ensure (at least within our power) a successful event! At this point we are still in need of assistance; it appears as though we are short of personnel (parents including several teachers volunteering to help) to supply enough assistance in a variety of areas. Christmas in July does represent “work”, but it is through working together that we help all of our families which then assists the children, your child! We look forward to “rolling up our sleeves”, continuing to create a memorable, fun-filled event one that encourages our community to come year after year, supporting our unique approach to education, Catholic and Montessori. We thank all of our parents and teachers who have dedicated time and energy to create this long standing tradition/fundraiser……an established fundraiser moving into its 37th year! For this wonderful blessing we are all very grateful and thank you in advance for your continued support of this important event. COME JOIN US… This Friday, Mission San Luis Rey Parish Youth Ministry presents, “Movies Under the Stars.” We will be showing “Frozen” by Disney out on the Parish lawn in front of the Serra Center. Bring your blankes or lawn chairs and enjoy the movie. The movie is free but the Youth Group will be selling hot dogs, chips, nachos, candy, and drinks to help raise money for the Youth Ministry. Show time begins at 7:30 p.m. Thank you for your support. YOUR JEWELRY IS NEEDED FOR OUR CHRISMTAS IN JULY JEWELRY BOUTIQUE Do you have jewelry, watches, or costume jewelry that you are no longer wearing? Please consider donating any jewelry to our Christmas in July Jewelry Boutique. Our volunteers will be outside of 10:00 am Mass on Sundays, or you can drop it off at the school office anytime. Thank you for your support.…another great way to support our school! is offering gift cards for 3 oil changes worth $120 for only $40. The best part is OMMS gets to keep $20 (that's half!) of each sale. If we sell 200 gift cards we would earn $4000. If we sell 500 gift cards we would earn $10,000! The money to be earned is endless because everybody NEEDS oil changes. Please see Ms. Cyndi in the office to buy yours; grab a few more to sell at work to your coworkers. .
