  2. 2. DEEPAK SHANTILAL PAREKH Born on Oct 18, 1944, India A Chartered Accountant Graduated from Sydenham College, Mumbai in 1965 Deepak Parekh began his career with Ernst & Young Management Consultancy Services
  3. 3. INTRODUCTION  Joined HDFC as a deputy GM in 1978  Chairman of HDFC since 1993  He is also the Non-Executive Chairman of GlaxoSmithkline Pharmaceuticals, Siemens India Ltd, Lafarge India.
  4. 4. TURNING POINT  The turning point in his career came when he joined HDFC in 1978. He climbed the corporate ladder very efficiently and smoothly.  In 1985 he was promoted to the post of Managing Director and Since 1993 He has been serving as the chairman.  His contribution in making HDFC India’s leading financial institution is very instrumental.
  5. 5. ACHIEVEMENTS  Recipient of Padma Bhushan in 2006  Economic Times Life Time Achievement Award  JRD Corporate Leadership Award  Businessman of The Year Award by Business India  Best Non Executive Director award by the Asian Centre for Corporate Governance.

CONTRIBUTION Times Bank merging with HDFC Bank in 2001 (first merger in the countrys private sector banking space) HDFC Bank absorbing Centurion Bank of Punjab None of HDFCs senior employees - directors, GMs and deputy GMs have left the organisation over the past decade Recommendations for the proposed-  India infrastructure Debt Fund,  Ways of making Indian cities slum-free (Rajiv Awas Yojna),  Deteriorating financial health and competitiveness of BSNL. Chairmanship of the New Pension Scheme Expert Group Membership to Comptroller & Auditor General of India (C&AG)s Audit Advisory Board etc.
