Permanent maxillary lateral incisor

  1. 1. Prepared by: Ismail,Hamze Gamil,Omar
  2. 2. INTRODUCTION  Two in number  Mesial side: Maxillary Central Incisor  Distal Side: Maxillary canines FUNCTION:  Cutting food  Speech and support for lips  Supplements central incisor in function and are similar looking
  3. 3. Tooth Numbering  UNIVERSAL SYSTEM – 7 and 10  PALMER – 2,2  FDI Sytem – 12, 22
  4. 4. Chronology  First evidence of calcification-: 10-12 months  Enamel completed: 4-5 years  Eruption: 8-9 years  Root completed: 11 years
  5. 5. Dimensions In mm Cervico- incisal length of crown 9.0 Length of the root 13.0 Mesiodistal diameter of crown 6.5 Mesiodistal diameter of crown cervix 5.0 Labio diameter of crown 6.0 Labio diameter of cervix 5.0 Mesial curvature of cervical line 3.0 Distal curvature of cervical line 2.0
  6. 6. Labial Aspect  Crown outline is trapezoidal  Mesial margin is approax. Similar to Maxillary Central incisor.  Distal margin more rounded than maxillary Central incisor.
  7. 7.  Mesio-incial and disto incisal line are more rounded than maxillary Central incisor.  Incisal outline is similar to maxillary central incisor but not straight.
  8. 8. Lingual Aspect  Mesial margin is more convex than maxillary central incisor and  distal margin is more rounded than maxillary central incisor  Lingual Fossa is deep triangular shaped and occupies 2/3rd of lingual surface of crown. Lingual 2/3rd
  9. 9.  Fossa will be rounded at the mesio-marginal ridge which is straight and longer whereas distal marginal ridge will be slightly curved and small.
  10. 10. Mesial Aspect  Very similar to the central incisor, with lessened dimension  Curvature of the cervical line is marked in the direction of the incisal ridge.
  11. 11.  Root appears as a convex with like rounded apical root end.
  12. 12. Distal Aspect  Distal surface is smaller and more convex in all dimensions than mesial surface  Curvature of cervical line is usually a millimeter or so less in depth than on mesial side.
  13. 13. Incisal Aspect  Resembles central incisor  Cingulum may be large, as is the incisal ridge  Labiolingual dimension may be greater than usual in comparison with mesiodistal dimension  Exhibit more convexity labially and lingually from incisal aspect than maxillary central incisor
  14. 14.  Mesiolabial and distolabial line angles are more rounded.
