  2. 2. Grievance <ul><li>A grievance is a feeling of discontent or dissatisfaction or distress or suffering or grief among workers. A grievance is a complaint when it brought into the notice of management. </li></ul>
  3. 3. Defination <ul><li>Any discontent or dissatisfaction whether expressed or not, whether valid or not, arising about of any thing connected with the company that an employee thinks, believes or even feels is unfair, unjust or unequitable. </li></ul>
  4. 4. Causes of grievances <ul><li>Management practise </li></ul><ul><li>Supervision </li></ul><ul><li>General working conditions </li></ul><ul><li>Trade unions </li></ul><ul><li>Difference of opinions </li></ul><ul><li>Industrial advancement </li></ul><ul><li>Collective bargaining </li></ul><ul><li>Psycological reasons </li></ul>
  5. 5. Grievance handling system <ul><li>It is like counseling process where employee’s emotional release of their dissatisfaction </li></ul><ul><li>In addition to this, every employee/worker has equal right to present his grievances to his employer and obtain their redressal. </li></ul>

Steps in grievance handling system <ul><li>Define, express and describe the nature of grievance </li></ul><ul><li>Gather all facts about the issue i.e. how & where it took place ? </li></ul><ul><li>Develop a list of available alternatives solutions </li></ul><ul><li>Gathering information from past experiences </li></ul><ul><li>Final decision to be passed in clear & unbiased terms </li></ul><ul><li>Follow up the case to ensure that grievance is resolved satisfactorily </li></ul>

Need for grievance handling <ul><li>The management becomes increasingly aware of problems of employee </li></ul><ul><li>To avoid the causes of grievance unrest </li></ul><ul><li>To avoid the situation of dissatisfaction </li></ul><ul><li>If management fail to fulfill its commitment then employee can submit their grievances in accordance with the procedure laid down. </li></ul>
  8. 8. Grievance handling procedure <ul><li>It is generally a formal system of several steps through which an affected employee can take his grievance to successfully higher levels of management for redressal. </li></ul><ul><li>It follow 5 stages to solve the problem </li></ul>
  9. 9. <ul><li>Stage I:- Aggrieved employee shall first present his grievance to the officer designated by management to reply within 48 hours </li></ul><ul><li>Stage II:- If the aggrieved worker is not satisfied he move to the departmental representative to reply within 3 days </li></ul><ul><li>Stage III:- If the aggrieved worker is still not satisfied with the settlement he will approach to grievance committee within 7 days & decisions are to be implemented within 3 days of receipts of recommendations from committee </li></ul>
  10. 10. Continued………………. <ul><li>Stage IV:- If the aggrieved worker is still not satisfied with the settlement he will appeal to management for revision. A week is given for appeal to be considered. </li></ul><ul><li>Stage V:- If the aggrieved worker is still not satisfied with the settlement the union may ask for voluntary arbitration in the matter. In case the matter is referred to an arbitration, the decision shall b binding on both the party. </li></ul>
