  2. 2. Apache The Apache Indian were formed in the 17th century. They came from the Alaskan region, Canada, and portions of the American Southwest.
  3. 3. The Apache tribe consists of six subtribes: the Western Apache, Chiricahua, Mescalero, Jicarilla, Lipan and Kiowa.
  4. 4. • The Apache Indians lived in tepees and wickiups. • They mostly ate Buffalo and meat and used their hides as protective clothing.
  5. 5. • They call themselves Inde, or Nide which means “The People”
  6. 6. • One tradition of the Apache tribe was Sunrise dancing.
  7. 7. • As of 1940, there was a record of only 35 Apache Indians living in the state of Oklahoma, and in 1970 a record of about 1,500 were documented in New Mexico.
