Analysis of a Film Magazine Cover: Empire

  1. 1. By Sam Burgess ANALYSIS OF A FILM MAGAZINE COVER: EMPIRE
  2. 2. The featured film of this month's issue of Empire is Captain America. The title of the film is in the centre of the magazine and found in the foreground. The font is white to contrast with the dark background, and it is the largest so the audience notices the name first. The background is an American flag to reflect the title and theme of the film.
  3. 3. The Empire title is found in it’s usual location at the top of the cover. It’s bold and white to stand out over the red and blue background. It needs to stand out so the magazine’s audience recognises it around the other covers. Chris Evans as Captain America takes up most of the room on the cover. He is the lead of the featured film so he gets given a lot of attention.
  4. 4. The buzz word “Plus!” has been put onto the cover to persuade potential buyers into picking up the magazine. At the bottom there is a banner that says “And! 32-page sci-fi Special inside!“, a way to attract some more readers.
