  7. 7. Was on a warship during the Battle of Baltimore.<br />
  8. 8. He could see a flag standing from the glare of the bombs and rockets all night. <br />
  9. 9. From poem to song..<br />
  10. 10. He was inspired to write a poem about it’s perseverance.<br />
  11. 11. After writing, he realized it fit perfectly with music from a song.<br />
  12. 12. The original song has 4 verses, but today only one is sang. <br />
  13. 13. Starting a tradition..<br />
  14. 14. In 1916, the president Woodrow Wilson ordered that the "Banner" should be played by the military and navy.<br />
  15. 15. In 1939, Congress named the song the national anthem.<br />
  16. 16. “Baseball was, is, and always will be - to me - the best game in the world.” Babe Ruth.<br />
  17. 17. Along with becoming the national anthem, the Star Spangled Banner began being played at sporting events.<br />
  18. 18. The first event it debuted was the 1918 World Series.<br />
  19. 19. Today, the Star Spangled Banner is still used for sporting and patriotic events.<br />
  20. 20. Although most people have heard it, few know the extensive history behind it.<br />
