(To access the full report incurs charges.) Available on and off campus 2. Directories & Company Databases Capital IQ N.B. Database available on campus only. (Restrictions imposed by the supplier.) A database used by investment bankers as well as providing information about them. This Standard and Poors database offers international company coverage of public and private equity companies and provides detailed financials (15 years), links to filings, annotated stock charts, transactions, investments and more. N.B. Pre-registration is required. Euromoney Class mark: 71 JQHP/JR A Euromoney directory containing overview articles on such topics as: the role of central banks in a globalised economy, insurance-linked securitization, covered bonds, Russian currency control and more. It also has country reviews mainly containing Finance Minister or Central bank statements. Some offer more specific and topical country articles e.g. the bond market in Croatia, Islamic Investment funds in Saudi Arabia, and Canadian Maple Bonds. Nelson's Directory of Investment Research: 2007 Print Resource - Reference only Class mark: 72 50 EEN Profiles international research firms with lists of industry specialisations. Also provides indexes for research categories: quantitative, economics, special situations, industries, geographic regions and companies monitored. OSIRIS An international company database covering 35,000 public listed companies worldwide, plus major unlisted subsidiaries. Provides up to 25 years of financial data, ratios, stock data, earnings estimates, peer group comparisons and more. It can be used to identify companies in specific sectors and regions and to download their accounts or to design an output format of you choice using the Format button. Portal Library database. It provides ready made statistical reports and rankings Search for specific deals or search for deals, new issues or mergers in a specific industry region, or for a certain type of issue. Research Reports & Rankings Global Bank Rankings Global Bank Rankings – Top 50 by Shareholder Value (Euromoney, August 2006) Free web resource Investext A database of investment analyst’s reports and reports from research companies such as: Fitch (just the brief ratings), Thomson Streetevents and Pricetarget Research. Portal Library database. Available on and off campus Business Insight A market research database offering a series of reports on financial services. It concentrates on the retail/consumer area with such reports as: The Future of Regulatory Compliance and The Banking and Regulatory Framework in EU Accession Countries. Portal Library database. Available on and off campus Thomson Deals Rankings/league tables of financial and legal advisors. Thomson Deals (available on and off campus through Portal) offers ready-made reports showing ranked financial advisors also customised searching for deals and advisors in M&A, Equity (including IPOS) and Bonds. Portal Library database. Available on and off campus How to get a league table in Thomson Deals At the bottom of the left hand column click on Deals Analysis. It defaults to M&A>Overview. This page supplies a series of tables including the last year’s completed M&A deals by industry sector. Scroll down to the bottom of the page to world wide completed M&A deals by value.   4. 4. 4 Note the subheadings: League Tables in the left hand menu. Click on this heading to gain quick access to a range of financial advisors league tables for announced and completed deals. For further analysis on a specific company go into screening and targeting (left hand menu) and pick the relevant area: M&A, Bonds or Equity. You can then search by advisor name and further limit by region, date, or detail of the issue or deal. N.B. in Quick search data goes back five years; use Advanced search for earlier data. Bloomberg Library only – two dedicated terminals Bloomberg is a major financial information service used in the City. The school has two terminals in the Library and one in the MIF lounge. The Library offers introductory training sessions. Try the following functions: • LEAG league tables for debt, syndicated loans, equity and equity-linked advisors. • LMX league table matrix for a comparison of underwriters/legal advisors for the fixed income, equity, equity- linked and syndicated loans market. • MA Mergers and Acquisitions, this offers reports and league tables and screening. • ANR (with an equity) for analysts’ recommendations and to see who is tracking a stock. • Type in the name of the person, or part of the name and hit HELP Then pick the People search results category. Browse until you find the right person. The level of biographic information varies from entry to entry. • JOBS details of current jobs in the city and in other fields. The 20 Best-Paid Investment Banks Bloomberg Market magazine The April 2008 issue of Bloomberg Market contains The Bloomberg 20. This ranks the top performing investment banks by deal fees instead of volume. Other rankings include the top fees for M&A, stock and bond underwriting and CDO deals. It also highlights the people who make it happen – the five key individual M&A advisers, bond and equity underwriters from the top five banks. The latest issue of Bloomberg Markets can be found in the Finance Zone in the Library. Print Resource – Reference Only Thomson Ownership Use Thomson Ownership to research the owners of a specific security to analyse comparable ownership positions, for information on securities transactions and the people and firms involved. It includes portfolio data including investment style, orientation, turnover and asset breakdown by industry, market cap and region. It has extensive global buy-side and sell-side contacts and features macro, mid, and micro-level classifications. Displays holders of companies by region, country or city and offers historical reports for the last two years based on a single security, a peer group or Thomson-defined sectors. Current awareness: newspaper, wires, journals, trade press, blogs Journals and newspapers To keep up to date with the industry you must read the finance press. An easy way to do this is to search Factiva, or set up a Factiva Alert. An alert will inform you when content added to the database matches your pre-set search criteria. To search just the finance press (journals, magazines and newspapers) in Factiva go to select source category > publications – by industry and then pick securities and investing. If you highlight this category any search you then carry out will be looking at such titles as: Euromony, Asiamoney, Barrons, Derivative Week, Financial Times, Forbes, Fortune, Investment News , Wall Street Journal and more. Portal>Library > Top Search Tools> Article Finder 360 Search 360 Search searches a number of databases in one go using a simplified search interface. It includes: Factiva, Business Source Complete, Elsevier Science Direct (which despite the name covers more than science), Econlit and Emerald. Associations & Web Sites London Investment Banking Association LIBA is the principal trade association in the United Kingdom for firms which are active in the investment banking and securities industry. Its objective is to ensure that London continues to be an attractive location for the conduct of investment banking business. The careers section provides a short document: “A Career in Investment Banking” British Banking Association The BBA is the leading association for the UK banking and financial services sector, speaking for 223 banking members from 60 countries on the full range of UK and international banking issues and engaging with 37 associated professional firms. Bank of England International Financial Services London - European site IFSL works for the removal of barriers to trade in the global market for financial services. Securities & Investment Institute The Securities & Investment Institute is the largest and most widely respected professional body for those who work in the securities and investment industry in the UK. New York Society of Security Analysts Since 1937, the New York Society of Security Analysts (NYSSA) has educated and informed investment professionals, providing them with a forum for the exchange of ideas and information. 6. Careers sources for investment banking Careers books Book on careers in this area such as the Vault and Wetfeet guides are held in the careers section (near the Library Desk) and all are listed in the Library catalogue. Vault Vault is a specialised job search product made available through Portal. It offers guidance on all aspects of job search: networking, interviewing and CV (resume) writing and also provides industry reviews and occupational profiles with guides to the top employers within and industry and finally specific company profiles. Available on and off campus Euromoney Jobs EuromoneyiiJobs is an online recruitment network, matching senior-level candidates and recruiters across a range of niche global financial sectors. It brings together careers channels from across the market-leading Euromoney Institutional Investor PLC print, database and online network. Sectors covered include: capital markets, derivatives, hedge funds, investment banking, equities, asset management, legal, project and trade finance, accountancy/audit, FX & money markets. Free web resource NB the Journal Euromoney is available in full text electronically on Factiva and Business Source Complete and it is held in print in the Library.
