The war with grandpa yearling by robert kimmel smith book review

  1. 1. The War with Grandpa (Yearling) by Robert Kimmel Smith Book ReviewPeter thinks the only way he can reclaim his room is by declaring war onhis grandfather.Dorothy Canfield Fisher Award, William Allen White Award,Tennessee Childrens Choice Book Award, Parents Choice Award, An IRA-CBC Childrens Choice, Mark Twain Award, Young Hoosier Award, S outhCarolina Childrens Book Award, Pacific Northwest Library AssociationYoung Readers Choice Award, Georgia Childrens Book Award.I read the fantastic book called War with Grandpa by Robert Smith. Thisbook is about when Peters Gr andpa moves in and Peter is forced to into ahorrible room in Attic. The setting is mainly in Peters house. Thecharacters are Peter, Grandpa, Peters Mom, Peters Dad, and Jennifer.Grandpa moves in because he is lonely since his wife died. Pete movesupstairs to the attic because Grandpas leg is to bad to walk a flight ofstairs. In the beginning, Peter declares war on Grandpa because he wantshis room back, but Grandpa tries to convince him that the war is pointless. In the middle, the real War with Grandpa happens because they playpranks on each other. For example Peter steals Grandpas special watchand Grandpa steals and Grandpa steals Peters Monopoly game pieces. Inthe end, Peter loses the war but things work out for both Peter andGrandpa There are very important themes in this book, One theme is that war ishorrible and things should be talked out. One event that supports thistheme is when Grandpa got his revenge; Peter suffered by being late forschool. Another theme is that life isnt always fair. Peter lost his room andcomplained too much. Life isnt always fair for Grandpa either because hiswife died. I recommend this book to kids ages nine to twelve because it isfunny, inspiring, and, interesting. The book is funny because the pranksare hilarious and they remind me of something kids my age would do.
