  3. 3. SlideShare: SlideShare is perhaps one of the best ways to get your word out to a targeted audience. SlideShare is a website where you can post your presentations, documents, PDF’s and videos.It is among the top 250 sites on the web and draws in millions ofvisitors each month.SlideShare is a great way to get your message in front of millions oftargeted potential clients and drive sales leads your way.How To:1. Set up account - Go to sign up and create a profile.2. Create content - SlideShare allows you to upload multiple formats of content. The most common content uploaded on SlideShare are presentations. Create a good presentation that conveys the message you are trying to get across. If you want to see examples, just got to SlideShare and in the search box type in a keyword for something that might interest you. This will bring back many great examples that you can use to create content.3. Contact information in your document - Make sure that you add your contact information in your document. If you go to the trouble of creating killer content, you need to have a way for people to get in contact with you. At a minimum, have an email Page 3
  4. 4. address and your name. If you can, add an address, phone number or any other way for people to reach you.4. Add a Call To Action - If you are posting a document or presentation online, then chances are that you are promoting a services or an offering. If this is the case, make sure that you have a call to action in your document. Don’t over do the calls to action, just add one maybe two. For example, if you own a search engine optimization company, you might want to add some special offer to entice people to call you.5. Upload your presentation or document - There is an upload button on the top part of the main page of SlideShare. Click this button and upload your presentation. You can also upload white papers that you create in Microsoft Word and one great feature of SlideShare is that you can also upload a You Tube video and embed it in a presentation.6. Add an appropriate title, description and keywords - This is key to getting found on SlideShare and potentially in the search engines. Make your title catchy so that people will look at your presentation. Don’t make the description too long as people will Page 4
  5. 5. only look at the first line or two to understand what your presentation is about. Think of appropriate tags or keywords to describe your presentation. This is critical as people will search for content based on certain keywords and you want your documents to show up. A great place to find appropriate tags is to use Googles Key Word Tool. You can find it here: https:// Make sure that you pick a category that best fits your presentation. Last but not least, if you want people to download your content. Then click the “Allow file download” button. This is a potential way for your content to be embedded on other peoples websites or passed around virally.7. Promote via social media - There is a Twitter, Facebook and a LinkedIn button to share your content with others in your network. Once your content is uploaded, go to the page that it is listed on. You can do this by clicking on your account name in the upper right hand corner and then select “My Uploads”. Once you see your presentation, click on it and you will be taken to your presentation page. That’s where you share the information on Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIN.If you are tracking your website through an analytics package, likeGoogle Analytics, then you will be able to see how much trafficSlideShare is delivering to your website. You might be surprised, Ihave found that SlideShare delivers about 4% to 5% of my traffic,which is currently the fifth best source of traffic to my website.   6. 6. Other SlideShare Functionality:There are a few other functions in SlideShare that can help youattract sales leads.A. ZipCasts:A Zipcast is essentially SlideShare’s online webinar functionality.ZipCast allows you to present your presentations to the world witheither audio or via audiovisual abilities.Currently there is a free model and a monthly pricing plan. To startout the free plan should be enough and should you move to a pointwhere you need the monthly priced model, make that jump then. Page 6
  7. 7. How you might use a ZipCast is to invite people to an onlinepresentation. How you do this is pick a time and a presentation.Send the audience a link to your presentation page, which is, where“YourAccountName” is the name you use for your SlideShare account.At the designated time, you follow the steps below and then run yourpresentation.How to Run A ZipCast:1. Pick a presentation out of “My uploads” which is located in the upper righthand corner of SlideShare under your user name.2. When you presentation opens on a new page, select “Zipcast” along the top of the presentation. It is the 5th option in.3. You have a choice to broadcast privately or publicly. If you have a free account, the you can only select Public. Click “Start Zipcast”.4. You will be directed to your ZipCast meeting page and you may be given a option to Tweet that your ZipCast is about to start.5. In the upper right hand corner, you will be asked to to allow the application to gain access to your system so that it can use your Page 7
  8. 8. camera and microphone for the ZipCast. Select “Allow”.6. Post to Twitter and Facebook - Also in the upper right hand corner you will find a button “Invite People To Join You”. If you click on this, you will be able to post to Twitter and Facebook or copy the URL and share it via email or any other service.7. You can chat with people in the chat area that is available.8. Once you are ready to start your ZipCast, you simply use your computers built in microphone, a headset or a stand alone microphone and if you choose, the webcam on your computer.9. Start talking to your presentation and then the arrow buttons to move forward or backwards or you can jump to a slide by putting Page 8
  9. 9. the slide number in the box on the right below the presentation.10. To end the ZipCast, simply click the “End ZipCast” button.That is all there is to running a ZipCast.Remember, have a way for people to get a hold of you and a call toaction in your presentation. You can add an email address and awebsite address and both can be hyperlinked.Promote your ZipCasts and show people your information.Did you know that people consume audiovisual content online 69% ofthe time and that this is expected to go to 90% by 2013.Also, people remember 80% of a compelling audiovisual storycompared to 10% written and 20% verbal.   10. 10. B. Adding a Presentation to Your Website or Blog:If you have a website or a blog, you may be aware that it is tough toput a presentation up on your website. SlideShare is a great way toget around this problem.There is an embed feature on SlideShare that will allow you to get theproper code to add to your website so that your presentation willdisplay.How To Add A SlideShare Presentation To Your Website:1. Go to you account profile in the upper right hand corner and select “My Uploads”.2. Choose the presentation that you would like to add to your website or blog.3. Pick the “Embed” option that is listed just above the presentation. Page 10
  11. 11. 4. Click the “Customize” option on the page and you will get an extended menu.5. Make a selection on what you want, related content (typically select without related content so that other people’s presentations won’t show up on your site), what slide you want to start on and the size of the display.6. You can choose the options that you have for the code for your website or blog and then either you can or your website developer can paste it into your website.7. You have a presentation listed on your website, very simple and easy to do. Page 11
  12. 12. C. How to Add Video to a Presentation:If you have ever posted a video to You Tube, you will find that so fewpeople ever watch them. Here is a great way to get more people towatch your videos, add them to a presentation and post them onSlideShare.Once you have uploaded a presentation, then follow these steps:1. Go to you account profile in the upper right hand corner and select “My Uploads”.2. Choose the presentation that you would like to add to your You Tube video to. Page 12

  14. 14. needed.6. Pick where you want to insert the video, the “Select Position” drop down will allow you to place your video or videos in different positions in your presentation.7. Hit “Insert and Publish”.A great marketing tip here is that you can have a video insertedbefore a contact page and then you can post this up on your web site.The video starts to auto play the second someone goes to the page youdirect them to. It’s a great way to promote a product or service orevent guide someone through what you want them to do once theyland on the page, like sign up for a news letter, register for a webinar,etc.Here is an example I did: Page 14

LeadShare:LeadShare is a way to capture qualified leads from your presentationson SlideShare. feature is only available for premium accounts, but as a helpfulhint, you can add hyperlinks in your presentations. These hyperlinkscan take your viewers to lead capture pages or they can directviewers to your website. Page 16
  17. 17. 10 SlideShare Tips:Tip 1: If you want to get links back to your website and also get yourwebsite address seen, then post comments on the presentations onthe main page of SlideShare.The trick to getting your title and website listed is all in how you fillout your personal information. In the Organization/Workplace field,use you web site address.Make sure that you write something of interest so that people areinterested in looking at your website.Tip 2: Have a way for people to contact you. You can add your emailaddress and your website address in your presentations and they willbe hyperlinked. This way people will have a way to contact you ifthey are interested.Tip 3: Upload content all the time. The key is to get content on all thetime so that you can get found. Page 17

Tip 4: Complete your public profile so that people know who you areand give them a way to contact you.Tip 5: Comment on some of the top ranked presentations on the firstpage to get your name and your company out there. People areconstantly looking at the main page presentation on SlideShare andyou can use this to your advantage.Tip 6: Try out new content to see what people think. Post up apresentation and put a slide in asking people to let you know whatthey think. This is a great way to see if your content resonates withthe intended audience.Tip 7: Tweet your Presentations and Share them with your Facebookfollowers. Get others looking at your content.Tip 8: Use the Linked In Share button to post your presentations todifferent groups on Linked In. Be careful to follow the Groups rulesbefore you start blasting them.Tip 9: Use the More button on the left hand lower side of yourpresentation to post your presentation to your blog or microblog.
