Final ProductOur documentary was based upon the theme ofremembrance, which was connoted through the use ofpoppies and the title; ‘The Forgotten Memory’.In order to maintain the theme of war and to ensurethat the audience were aware of this being the focus,various iconic items and images were used repeatedly.For example, the use of the poppy.
  3. 3. Final ProductBetween the print works and the actual documentary, therearent many links. This is due to only the first five minutes of thedocumentary being filmed. Had we needed to lengthen theproduction, there would be an increase in the amount oficonography. For example, there may be use of the gun and thelink between medals/necklaces gained through war.The main links are between both print works and how theyrelate to one another, as well as the documentary.

  6. 6. Print WorkFor the print work, I researched documentaries which weresimilar to that of our own. Through this I was able to recogniseiconography and how they had been advertised and promoted.The iconography helped for the group to know, and understandwhat is needed to be shown in both the film and print work, inorder for the misé en scene to be consistent. I also needed toresearch our chosen channel, BBC One, leading to researchneeded to be completed about the magazine Radio Times.I completed the research for our repertoire of elements,which helped us to complete all of the work and ensuredthat we kept within the restraints of misé en scene.
  7. 7. ResearchThe research was put into a repertoire of elements grid, in orderfor easier reading and so that all work is in the same place.Through the completion of this, we were able to maintain ontrack and ensure that the work created was within the misé enscene constraints.
  8. 8. Research This was my original idea The Forgotten for the poster, and the Memory finished product changed to become as so. I think that the changes are beneficial and ensure that the story was well portrayed. By including theWar scenery/Veterans poppy, I hoped that the theme of remembrancePoppy would be conveyed. When (InForeground) we finished the designs and photography, we recognised that it was better to have the poppy on BBC One the DPS and keep the poster, minimalistic with colours. Hence the lack of red poppy.
  9. 9. Radio TimesWhen researching later on, I was able to find a website known asSpecle, which contained all of the measurements andspecifications of a double page spread for the magazine.
  10. 10. Radio Times Double Page SpreadI also searched for images of other double page spreads whichhad appeared in the magazine. This was so we could remain astrue to the original identity of the magazine as possible. Similarities between both are: -The use of one image, which takes up the whole of the two pages -Large font for the title -The font is that of the existing brand, so in this case it is the font that is used by The Vaccines on their CD’s, memorabilia etc. -The darkened down colour scheme, however there is more bright white and creams in the actual Radio Times DPS

Newspaper AdvertisementFor the newspaper advertisement we used ourresearch which had been gathered from Radio Times.This was to help us decide on the dimensions and thelayout of the main advertisement. As a group we choseto have one main image, and only use simple lettering.This is because we had rarely seen posters oradvertisements similar for any BBC programmes,creating a bit of an issue for us when it came tocreating the poster. Eventually we were able to findsome poster designs which helped for our idea tobecome a reality.
  12. 12. AdvertisementTo research newspaper advertisements I found images of similarads, these were to help us compare and make decisions which suitthe existent advertising materials. Similarities between both pieces of advertising: -They both have the logo of the specific BBC channel that they are going to be aired on -On the existent advertisement there is a tag line, on our one there is the title of the programme. Although these are different, the programme in the original may be more well known and therefore does not need to be shown explicitly, unlike our own new documentary

  14. 14. Relation Between Print Work and Final ProductWithin both pieces there is a clear link through the use oficonography; the main piece being the poppy. In thedocumentary, within the first few seconds, audience memberssee a poppy which is washed upon the shore. This createsconnotations and links to the theme of remembrance, the maintheme of the documentary. In the DPS we made sure to includethe poppy, which was saturated more in comparison to the restof the image, as this is the main iconic link between both texts.
