  2. 2. • Pinterest allows users to save images andcategorize them on different boards. They canfollow other users’ boards if they have similartastes. The development of Pinterest began2009, and the site launched as a closed beta inMarch 2010. The launch of an iPhone app in earlyMarch 2011 brought in a more than expectednumber of downloads. In December 2011, the sitebecame one of the top 10 largest social networkservices, with 11 million total visits per week. Thesite was developed by Ben Silbermann, PaulSciarra, and Evan Sharp.

Hegraduated from Yale in 2003 witha political science major.Silbermann worked at Google inthe sales organization, after ashort time he left and starteddesigning his own iPhone appswith his college friend PaulSciarra.
  4. 4. Pinterest, first launched in2010, came out of Cold BrewLabs, a product shop started bySciarra and college pal BenSilbermann. The one-timeexperimental project has caughtfire in recent months and couldbe worth as much as $500million in a sale. Members usethe site to “pin” products tocollections called “boards,” anactivity that’s become sopopular that even PresidentObama is doing it.
  5. 5. While in architecture school in2009, Evan Sharp started Pinterestwith two friends as a fun sideproject. He later left Facebook tolead the design and front-endengineering of Pinterest full time.Their website and mobile appenables users to collect and sharetheir favorite images. In large partdue to its simplicity and beautifulexecution, Pinterest has quicklyskyrocketed to success with morethan 30 million users globally and a$1.5 billion valuation.
  6. 6. A pin starts with an image or video you add toPinterest. You can add a pin from a website using thePin It bookmarklet or upload an image right from yourcomputer. Any pin on Pinterest can be repinned, and allpins link back to their source
  7. 7. A board is where you organize your pins by topic. You couldpin ideas for remodeling your bathroom to your HouseProjects board, for example. Boards can be secret orpublic, and you can invite other people to pin with you onany of your boards.
  8. 8. When you follow someone, their pins show up in your Pinteresthome feed. You can follow all of someones boards or just theones you like best. To manage who youre following, go to yourprofile and click Following.
  9. 9. When you unfollow someone, their boards wont show up inyour home feed anymore. You can unfollow all of someonesboards, or just the ones youre not that interested in.Nobody will get notified if you unfollow them.
  10. 10. Your home feed is a collection of pins from pinners andboards you follow. Its updated every time someoneyou follow adds a pin.
  11. 11. The Pin It bookmarklet lets you easily pin things you seeon websites and blogs.
