Most accidents on stairs occur when descending due to overstepping or slipping. Overstepping happens when treads are indistinct and people misjudge the edge. Slipping is caused by lack of traction on the front of treads where wear is common. Properly fitted anti-slip stair nosing can prevent both issues by clearly defining tread edges and providing high-traction surfaces at the front of each tread where needed most. Other solutions like tape, paint, or flat plates are inadequate as they do not address the key areas.
