The literacy rate in Azad Kashmir was 62% in 2004,higher than in any other region inPakistan. However, only 2.2% were graduates,compared to the average of 2.9% for the whole ofPakistan.
The language spoken is Pahari language,with some people preferring Urdu andothers Dogri, Hindko or Pothwari.
The males in the family are responsible forearning, and the women are mainlyhousewives. But there are working womenalso who mainly prefer the profession ofteaching. Some women/men also haveindulged themselves in the field ofAgriculture and farming, for which they haveto work day and night. They have to milktheir buffalos and look after their crops.

Naik Saif Ali Janjua Pakistan Army Azad Kashmir was a platooncommander during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1947. He receivedthe Hilal-e-Kashmir from the government of Azad Kashmir, which isequal to Nishan-e-Haider, the highest military award given byPakistan. He fought in the Kashmir sector during the 1948 War andwas killed there.
