1. Home improvement show featuring Troy couple coming to
HGTV
TROY, AL (WSFA) -
Troy residents Shaunna and Matt West have been keeping a secret and were finally able to make the
"most unbelievable, craziest announcement ever" Thursday.
The couple has been filming a home
improvement show since the fall, and a
pilot will be airing on HGTV this
weekend.
HGTV described the pair as "the
Alabama restoration dream team."
"Sweet House Alabama" follows
Shaunna and Matt as they "help a
couple house hunt for that diamond in
the rough property, peel away it's
historic grandeur and restore to its
stunning, original beauty, all within
budget."
"You're going to see us turn a lot of old things into new things. You're going to see lots of goofiness
because we're pretty casual around here. But you're going to hopefully learn a lot. You'll see us kind
of take older pieces and transform them and of course with the pilot we do that with a house,"
Shaunna said.
Shaunna says she never fathomed something like this would happen. The couple started writing
about their home renovations and restoration projects on their blog perfectlyimperfectblog.com in
2009.
They eventually opened an online store, then a store in downtown Troy, also called Perfectly
Imperfect, and most recently another store in Opelika. Much to their surprise, a casting director in
New York contacted them about filming the home improvement show.
"After talking about it and praying about it and weighing our options, Matt and I decided to go for it.
We knew it was totally a long shot, and decided we'd just treat it as a fun experience," Shaunna
wrote in a blog post Thursday. "If it worked out, great. If not, then we would go on about our
business and keep doing our thing."
Shaunna couldn't say exactly what's in store for the future or if we should expect more episodes, but
says it's been a fun experience and they're excited to continue to grow from here.
The pilot airs Sunday at 1 p.m.
