2. Cacti introduction
Cacti are a type of succulent plant1
, which usually have a
thick fleshy skin with a waxy skin surface, they usually have
spikes along the skin and are also usually green in color,
they are found in hot environments and in places with a lack
of water, i.e deserts.
3. Cacti & desert
Due to cacti being in deserts
which have a very dry and hot
environment, naturally they
have to somehow either
collect or conserve water in
order to not suffer from
dehydration.
4. Cacti water consumption and collection
Cacti collect water and pool it in a
water reservoir in their stem, to add to
that cacti are known for their ability to
expand and contract to accommodate
larger or smaller amounts of water.
Finally their tough skin keeps the water
from evaporating. They have to do this
as deserts do not have vast amounts of
water in them. Additionally, it barely
ever rains.
5. Environments
Cacti usually are in habitats with a lack
of water however they can be found in
more damp or moist environments.
6. Cacti species
There are many species of
cacti and they can vary from
shape, size and even color!
Though most are known to be
green they sometimes can be
red, yellow and even
sometimes blue.
