Able to name the different kinds of fruitsDuring snack time the ECE assignedme to serve the children. I asked the Enjoys singing simple songs (Ages andchildren what is the color of the Stages)banana? Most of them answeredyellow. What is the shape of the Answers what and where questions?apple? Some said round. (Ages and Stages)When I was slicing the apples, we allsang “I like to eat apples and bananas. Physical DevelopmentMost of them ate more than 2 sliceswhile other requested for more. Some Can feed self (Ages and Stages)days the centre served canned peachslices and fruit cocktail with syrup. The Can feed self with spoon (Ages andchildren used their hands while others Stages)used the spoon. All the children sippedthe juice in the bowl.The children always finished the fruitsevery snack and lunch time. Lets usguess what fruit we will have for snacktomorrow?

I started the conversation byasking them what fruits they like. The children liked the fruits theysaw on the tray. Other children mentioned fruits like kiwi, strawberry,pear, and etc. We discussed about the colors of the fruit, the childrenmentioned like yellow, orange, green. I asked them: where can youfind fruits? One said farm, other said in the supermarket. What doyou do with fruits? One answered: eat, cut, squeeze. Aside fromeating, I asked what else we can do with fruits. One answered bakelike apple pie and I told the children we can also make juice or fruitshakes. We can also make apple sauce or fruit jams. I let the childrenfeel and touched the fruit and asked them what they feel, one saidsoft and hard. WILL THE INQUIRY PROCESS WORK WITH THIS TOPIC? WHYOR WHY NOT?This will work for several reasons, Allow the children to explore the fruits by themselves, but allows collaboration with the observer. Lots of fruits are easily available. Allow the children to discover and explore the different textures and taste of the fruit and what can we make out of fruit. If question arise, the observer can assist the children by guiding them the answers. This activity can be ongoing because we can provide lots of opportunities to explore in curriculum areas such as science, math, sensory, dramatic, art and language. We have enough time and available equipments to explore the fruits.
.Rationale:After observing the children and speaking with them at ourplayground table, I discovered that they are very interested in fruits.Your children are naturally curious and will have many opportunitiesover several weeks to explore fruits, conduct supervised experimentsand deepens their understanding of fruits. The activities will help thechildren develop their cognitive, language, sensory, math and dramaskills. Let the children explore and collaborate by asking open endedquestions and through scaffolding we will be able to make theactivities interesting and fun.This is a natural part of preschool development.
