What to Expect When Hosting a Red Cross Blood Drive

  1. 1.  Providing oil resources and services in Georgia, Arizona, and Florida, Russell (Russ) Scaramella established U.S. Oil Holdings, LLC. Russell Scaramella oversees daily fuel-product distribution operations and manages charitable initiatives, like hosting mobile blood drives for the American Red Cross. For more than 50 years, the American Red Cross has played an integral role in collecting blood donations that reduce supply shortages. The organization obtains more than 6 million units from the generosity of the public each year, which is then used to respond to over 70,000 disasters.
  2. 2.  This achievement is made possible with the generosity of partner organizations that host in excess of 200,000 blood drives annually. Organizations looking to spread goodwill and give the gift of life can do so by hosting a blood drive. A host is responsible for providing a suitable location, recruiting donors, and scheduling blood donation appointments. To ensure success, the Red Cross encourages hosts to set up a committee that leads marketing initiatives for their site. The committee makes sure advanced notice about the blood drive date is given and organizes volunteers to assist the day of the event.
  3. 3.  The Red Cross provides support, such as tips for recruitment and determining the number of donors to accommodate. Professionals transport and set up all necessary equipment and supplies. They are also tasked with properly screening donors and executing procedures for safe blood withdrawals. Upon completion, the Red Cross blood drive team collects their belongings, leaving the space as it stood upon arrival.
