One Year in the Making <ul><li>Obtained approval for participation from School Board Superintendants </li></ul><ul><li>Contacted all schools including public, separate, and private boards </li></ul><ul><li>Requested forecast of grade 4 enrolment from each school by March 2009 </li></ul><ul><li>Once schools agreed to participate, all grade 4 teachers were contacted </li></ul>

  21. 25. Things that surprised us at our station … <ul><li>Some grade 4 kids weigh 195lbs </li></ul><ul><li>Many kids did not have breakfast </li></ul><ul><li>Kids wore Backpacks that were twice as heavy as recommended </li></ul><ul><li>Many kids displayed poor posture </li></ul>

Teacher Feedback <ul><li>The children were engaged, interested, and happy to participate. </li></ul><ul><li>Great combination of information and activity. </li></ul><ul><li>Appropriate for children of this age. </li></ul><ul><li>There were many students who have never had their teeth or eyes checked. </li></ul><ul><li>I look forward to revisiting the material we learned and using the resources you provided. </li></ul><ul><li>Overall it was a huge success. It’s a great way of making children aware of the different aspects of their health. </li></ul><ul><li>A wealth of great information. </li></ul><ul><li>Resources can be adapted into curriculum area and was a valuable use of our time. </li></ul><ul><li>Thanks -the majority of students learned facts they have not received from home. </li></ul>
  23. 27. Overall, Happy Healthy Kids Day 2009 was a tremendous success! At the end of the day, all of the professionals involved were amazed at the energy & participation of the grade fours, were happy with the outreach they could provide to our community, and were utterly exhausted – yet ready and willing to plan for next year!
