Before Hiding• Anne’s full name is Annelies Marie Frank• Anne Frank was born in 1929 in Frankfurt• In 1933, Anne and her family moved to the Netherlandsbecause of Hitler• In 1941, the Franks lost their citizenship in Netherlandsbecause they were Jews• May 1941, the Nazis invaded Netherlands• Anne received a diary and named it “Kitty”• Anne wrote in this diary frequently about different thingsthat happened in her life

Process of Hiding• The Germans started searching for the Jews toput them in concentration camps• July 5, 1942 Margot gets summoned for laborcamps• July 6, 1942 Anne and her family go into hidingin Otto Franks office building• The Van Daans move into hiding with the Franksshortly after the Franks are in hiding

Beginning of Hiding• During the hiding, the Van Daans and theFranks did not really get along very well• Anne decides she does not like her mother butshe does like her father• People working in office building supply food forthe Franks and Van Daans and they keep themupdated on everything going on in theNetherlands• Anne documents many things that happen inhiding from 1942-1944

Ending of Hiding• A burglar went into the office building and foundthe two families in hiding• The burglar is still unknown today but he told theGermans about the Franks and Van Daans inhiding and that’s when the Germans cameknocking on the office building door• August 14,1944 the Germans found the twofamilies and took them into concentration camps• Everyone in the families were sent topunishment at Barracks for hard labor

During Concentration Camps• During camp, their punishment was to haulrocks and other materials to the instructedlocation• Anne and Margot were sent to Auschwitz onSeptember 3, 1944• Anne and Margot then were sent to BergenBelesen on October 28• Anne got very sick from scabies• Anne and Margot died in March 1945, only a fewdays before the camp was liberated

Anne Frank Diary• Otto Frank published Anne’s diary after WorldWar II because she said she wanted that• The diary was published in 1947• As of today, there is over 30 million copies ofthis diary and it is in 67 different languages• Anne Franks diary is a major source that peopleuse to learn more about the Holocaust and whathappened during that time period
