11. 11. Optimising Marginal Resources in Intensive Horticultural Production in Southern Turkey and Northern Egypt.

In Co-operation with third countries and International organizations, European commission have approved contract with six institutions namely; University of Walls - Aberystwyth Institute of Biological Science (UK), Institute National de le Recherché Agronomicue, Centre d’ Avignon, (France), Wye College, University of London (UK), Instituto valenciano de Iniversity (Spain), El-Bosaily Protected Cultivation Unit (Egypt) and Ege University of Agriculture (Turkey). The contract has allocated fund for a three-year technical co-operation project aiming at optimising marginal resource in intensive horticultural production in

Southern Egypt and Northern Turkey. Five work packages with different tasks have been formulated as follows:

Greenhouse plastic shelter climate control.

Water requirement and irrigation scheduling.

Crop physiology.

Development of appropriate substrates and fertigation studies.

Selection and screening of cultivers in relation to growth, development and post harvest stability.

Too much wording

Ugly background

Bad pictures

 13. 13. B) Cyanobacteria in symbioses with the water fern Azolla

The name Azolla is conjugated from two Greek wards. Azolla : azo (to dry) and olloy (to kill) , meaning when “ dries it dies ) .

The Azolla-Anabaena symbiosis is outstanding due to its high productivity combined with its ability to fix nitrogen at high rates.

Azolla is called the green gold mine .

Too much colors

 14. 14. Background

Research being used in a wide variety of applications--Rockefeller and Purdue especially have developed several technologies to improve horticultural systems (colored mulches, spectral filters, etc.).

Experiment similar to mine was one of the earliest: researchers shone light through a prism onto a tank of cyanobacteria. They then measured trend of bacteria congregating at areas of high photosynthetic efficiency on the spectrum, and obtained results similar to mine.

Light influences plant growth through signal transduction by a variety of photoreceptor proteins (pigments) in the plant cells. Photomorphogenic effects by these receptors include the stimulation of photosynthesis, or plant growth, phototropism, or growing toward light, and photoperiodism, or circadian rhythms of growth. The receptors, known as phytochromes, are sensitive to certain wavelengths of light.

A great deal of recent research (including studies at Purdue and in Germany) has focused on the regulation of a variety of proteins--incluing ETC cytochromes and receptor kinases--by wavelength. This could also have a major impact on the health of my plants.

Too much wording
