Carbohydrates

  1. 1. Carbohydrates (starch and sugars)<br /><ul><li>Carbohydrates are easily digested and broken down into glucose, it travels in our blood and taken into cells to be converted into energy, which the body used to perform its function
  2. 2. Carbohydrates should be 45%-65% of calories in your diet, which is about 200 grams-300 grams of carbohydrates daily, we should get half of the energy from carbohydrates for adults. Children should take about 16%.
  3. 3. 1g of carbohydrate contains 3.75 calories.
  4. 4. Other nutrients like protein affects the speed of how the carbohydrates get digested
  5. 5. Carbohydrates splits into 2 groups: simple carbohydrates (sugar) and complex carbohydrate (natural starches), complex carbohydrate provide a slower and more sustained release of energy than simple carbohydrate.
