What is the meaning of
Game Sense ???
Why It is important for
teaching process???
What is game sense ?
It is a new process that is used in NSW primary teaching
to develop students' mental understanding and their
skills through participation in games instead
Of technical practise .
Game sense pedagogy provides
the opportunity to refine the
ability of teaching and learning
of physical education into
school curriculum .
Game sense is the formula of teaching games for
understanding (TGfU) that has many effects on
teaching process in different range of cultures .It offers
enjoyable and satisfying experience of learning,
playing sport and games (Light & Georgakis,2005)
This approach promotes children with
environment that helps them to gain
variety of skills such as
Decision making Problem solving Self-expression
Tactics Moving
(brookes,2012)
teachers through game sense
concentrate on three points :
• Make the children understand the aim
of the game that are playing
• The skills and strategies that students
need to achieve success in the game .
• Help the students to recognise the
problem easily and solve it using their
skills(brookes,2012).
Using game sense in PE class helps
broadening students’ vision of educational
value and enhances social network and
collaborative learning
There is a relationship between physical activity
and health in physical education .game sense
prove this correlation as it allows for inclusive
and learning and development of social culture
as well as personal learning
Game sense has a meaningful influence to
develop a high quality attitude in the direction of
sport and class social connection (Chen & Light
,2006)
(Webb &Pearson &Forrest,2006)
Game sense strengths on teaching process
Game sense link to the PDHPE syllabus that
help students to have developed skills in
variety games like
 Invasion games(basket ball, soccer
 strike games(cricket )
 Net game (tennis, volleyball)
 Target game (golf)
Through these types of games students learn
how to use rules and instructions and achieve
the aim
Why would I use game sense in teaching prpgram?
 It helps the child to realise the space or area that they have
and how can manage themselves within group and this help
them to work as team .
 It provides competent , fun and excitement that can be
gained from games and sport experience .
 The teacher can create a positive and comprehensive
environment by using Game sense ,these games can be
modified and altered to involve all the children and keep
them active.
 Student will be able to prove different fundamental
movement skills that are essential for their growth
development through learning different activities such as
(skipping ,throwing ,catching ,hopping ,
kicking…etc)
Students through participation in games will be able
to transfer their learning through real practise with
more challenging
Students can gain from game sense
flexibility in the body , healthy life style ,
confidence to achieve the target and the
ability to communicate with others and
make a new friends
