Many of us have backgrounds in communications or technology, but working for social change online can be greatly enhanced with community organizing strategies that have been honed over many decades.

Ivan Boothe is the creative director of Rootwork.org, working with nonprofits and community groups as a Drupal developer and online organizer. He is active in the nonprofit tech and Drupal communities, and has a background as a community organizer. Ivan was a co-founder of the Genocide Intervention Network, and sits on the board of the Peace and Justice Studies Association. He is online communications associate with the Fellowship of Reconciliation and part of the NTEN and NetSquared communities locally and nationally. He has led community organizing workshops at the U.S. Social Forum, the New Organizing Institute and the Gandhi-King Conference.
