Answer to question 1:
What was his childhood like?
He grew up in Auckland in Tuakau the south of Auckland. He was
educated in Tuakau Primary school and then to Auckland Grammar
Sir Edmund Hillary skipped 2 years of primary school and struggled in
high school and intermediate.
Sir Ed was a shy boy when he was in primary so he made himself
happy by reading books and daydreamed on a life full of adventure.
After graduating University of Auckland, with his brother he became
a beekeeper. That was his summer thing and in winter he went

How has he contributed to our society/history?
He was the first person to achieve climbing
Everest with his mate Sherpa Tenzing Norgay.
He left his mark in the Antarctic, helping to
establish New Zealand’s Scott Base on Ross
Island in 1957 and leading the overland
vehicle traverse to the South Pole in 1958

What qualities did Sir Ed have?
Firstly he had a record of achievement because
no one has ever reached Everest before him.
He was a great believer and he had good sense
He was very caring and honest.
