  • Flipping the presentation!
  • Bassett ’s Stereoscopic Atlas of the Human Brain on the View-Master
  • Color TV 19 years VCR 12 years CD player 7 iPad 9 months! >> get old PPT re household entertainment devices
  • >> show iPad - wireless Apple TV w/AirPlay and “ mirroring ” in iOS 5
  • >> show iPad - wireless If you don ’ t have Apple TV set up, use Reflector on your laptop, Mac or PC.
  • Does this happen in your typical lecture hall? Ampitheaters go back to the Greek, but they never used it for teaching. They used it for performances!
  • Socrates said you teach by questioning. Lectures transfer informaton. Is education JUST the transfer of information?
  • In class, make sense of the information. Teach by questioning. Give time to think on their own - no talking. Poll them.
  • In class, make sense of the information. Teach by questioning. Give time to think on their own - no talking. Poll them.
  • Here ’s what will happen if we stay at the bottom of Bloom’s taxonomy...
  • Occupational Therapy also joined pilot Cohorts every 2 weeks: - developed key apps and skills - faculty reimbursed up to $100 for apps
  • Dr. Bentzley wasn ’ t able to attend, but she wanted to tell you a bit about her experience.
  • How do you use iPad as a tool in class
  • Invited tech savvy librarian to tell students what the iPad can do: Read books, eBooks Research tools: CHEMnetBASE, ProQuest, May act as a substitute for Mac or PC desktop or laptop - doing research, can avoid computer lab,
  • Asked students to find discipline specific apps and productivity apps. Students demoed apps in class.
  • Instructors use TP Anywhere on PC or Mac Students connect with Responseware on their iPad or via the web.
  • Cloud based Many unique question types Just acquired by Pearson
  • Students were asked to solve a problem in class and write their work in AirSketch and save it in a shared Dropbox. Instructor then opens the students work and displays it in class. Airsketch is like a whiteboard. - save to photos - upload photo to Dropbox Much easier when using Apple TV!
  • Instructor figured out how to use AirSketch and Panopto lecture capture to prepare pre-lab video “ screen casts ” videos for pre-lab instructions. Panopto is web-based lecture capture tool hosted in the cloud.
  • Graphs taken from a survey of all 100 students at the end of the pilot - not just chem students.
  • Here are 3 video testimonials from students in Dr. Bentzley ’ s chemistry class, and a wrap-up from Dr. Bentzley.
