  2. 2. TEACHING WITH VIDEOS <ul><li>In this presentation you will see an example of a class of starters students of English as L2 which includes the use of technological resources to work with videos in the lesson. </li></ul>
  3. 3. <ul><li>Topic: Food and Drinks </li></ul><ul><li>Grammar point: “Would like” </li></ul><ul><li>Time: 80’ minutes </li></ul>
  4. 4. Warming up activity: <ul><li>Students will be shown pictures of different food and drinks. In turns they will have to stand up and say thier names and a sentence using “like” or “don’t like”. </li></ul><ul><li>T models an example first: </li></ul><ul><li>She shows her image (hamburger). </li></ul><ul><li>She says: My name is……. I like it/I don’t like it. </li></ul>
  5. 6. <ul><li>Students will be asked about the pictures they saw. T will introduce new vocabulary by showing a picture at a time and naming it. Students are asked to repeat after her. </li></ul>Presentation
  6. 8. <ul><li>Students will be shown the same set of pictures. This time they will have to say the names of the food/drinks they remember. So, the teacher will introduce the written form of food/drink. </li></ul>

  11. 13. <ul><li>Students will be provided with a set of pictures in order to discuss them in groups. </li></ul>

  13. 15. Discuss these questions: <ul><li>What type of video is it? </li></ul><ul><li>Who is the woman? </li></ul><ul><li>Who are the men? </li></ul><ul><li>Where are they? </li></ul>
  14. 16. <ul><li>Student will watch a video in order check their answers. The video is played mute. </li></ul>

  16. 18. Answer: <ul><li>What type of video is it? A commercial </li></ul><ul><li> A film </li></ul><ul><li>Who is the woman? A singer </li></ul><ul><li> A teacher </li></ul><ul><li>Who are the men? Secret agents </li></ul><ul><li> Thieves </li></ul><ul><li>Where are they? In a restaurant </li></ul><ul><li> In a classroom </li></ul>
  17. 19. <ul><li>They will watch it again (the video is played with sounds) in order to listen to the food/drink that is named. </li></ul>

  19. 21. <ul><li>T introduces the grammar point. She explains the use of the “would like” construction. She introduces the contracted form: I’d like </li></ul><ul><li>She provides examples using the “would like + food/drink”. </li></ul><ul><li>Example: I would like a pizza. </li></ul>
  20. 22. Systematization. <ul><li>Students will be asked to write an example using would like+food/drink according to the first image they got. </li></ul><ul><li>Example: Juan got . </li></ul><ul><li>He writes: I would like chicken </li></ul>
  21. 23. Practice <ul><li>Student wil be provided with images so as for them to fill in the gaps to make a complete sentence. They have to use: would like+food/drink. </li></ul>
  22. 24. <ul><li>Example: </li></ul><ul><li>I........like a ……… </li></ul><ul><li>I would like a salad. </li></ul>I ….. like an ………… I would……………... ... would .… a …...
  23. 25. <ul><li>Students will choose 2 different food and drinks and they have to write a sentence for each of them using twice long and short forms. </li></ul><ul><li>T will monitor students’ performance. </li></ul>
  24. 26. <ul><li>In turns, students will tell the class the food/drink they chose. Then, they will write a sentence on the board. </li></ul><ul><li>T will provide the necessary help to clarify students’ doubts in case they arise. </li></ul>
  25. 27. Production: <ul><li>Student will be provided with cards containing the name of food or drinks. </li></ul><ul><li>They will have to change cards among the classmates. Once the teacher stops them they will have to draw it on the board and then say a sentence using the word on the card. </li></ul>
