  4. 4. What is Obesity? Obesity is a chronic condition defined by a significantly higher amount of body fat than is healthy or desirable; and can affect persons across gender and ethnic backgrounds.

How is Obesity Measured? <ul><li>Obesity is mainly measured by the BMI (Body Mass Index) scale. </li></ul><ul><li>The World Health Organization (WHO) defines &quot;overweight&quot; as a BMI equal to or more than 25, and &quot;obesity&quot; as a BMI equal to or more than 30. </li></ul><ul><li>Other methods of estimating body fat and body fat distribution include measurements of skinfold thickness and waist circumference, calculation of waist-to-hip circumference ratios, and techniques such as ultrasound, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). </li></ul>
