Particle Swarm Optimization (Pso)

  1. 1. Particle swarm Optimization (PSO) <ul><li>Rahim Kadkhodamohammadi </li></ul><ul><li>October 2010 </li></ul>
  2. 2. PSO It was developed in 1995 by James Kennedy and Russell Eberhart.
  3. 3. Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) <ul><li>PSO is a robust stochastic optimization technique based on the movement and intelligence of swarms. </li></ul><ul><li>PSO applies the concept of social interaction to problem solving. </li></ul><ul><li>It uses a number of agents (particles) that constitute a swarm moving around in the search space looking for the best solution. </li></ul><ul><li>Each particle is treated as a point in a N-dimensional space which adjusts its “flying” according to its own flying experience as well as the flying experience of other particles. </li></ul>
  4. 4. PSO model Fitness Function, used to evaluate particles position
  5. 5. PSO Inertia weight (w) Larger w ----------- greater global search ability Smaller w ------------ greater local search ability. The cognitive component , which represents the particle's own experience as to where the best solution is. The social component , which represents the belief of the entire swarm as to where the best solution is.
  6. 6. Position Update Position update in PSO: Discrete PSO :
  7. 7. Conclusion <ul><li>PSO is simple and efficient </li></ul><ul><li>Fitness Function </li></ul><ul><li>Inertia weight </li></ul>
  8. 8. Thank you
