Role of Regulators and Professional Bodies - A comparative study SL no Regulatory Authority Professional body 1 A statutory Body constituted by a piece of legislation A non- governmental and Non – statutory body promoted, established and administrated by professionals. 2 It can grant registration and license / certification for practice and approve the institutions for education by law. No power to grant license. Only accredits the personnel and institutions in a voluntary and non profitable manner.
  14. 14. SL no Regulator Professional body 3 Has statutory obligations for CPD and CE on its registrants and the same for improving and maintaining the educational standards. Has professional and moral obligations for CPD & CE for its members and even to non members also. It has same obligations on institutional accreditation. 4 Powers to officially represent on behalf of profession in Govt. and non govt. agencies Representing on behalf of professionals

Indian Scenario of professional Regulation in paramedics/Allied health <ul><li>No regulator in Central or State level </li></ul><ul><li>Any one can start any type of course and award certificates. </li></ul><ul><li>No regulation for professionals’ practice. </li></ul><ul><li>No need of certification and licensing in practice . </li></ul><ul><li>Total anarchy in profession especially in south India like Kerala & Karnataka states. </li></ul>

Indian Scenario of Professional Development in RT <ul><li>Allied health professionals including Radiographers has not come into a professional status, yet. </li></ul><ul><li>Majority – especially in Govt. service hesitating to involve CME & CPD programs. </li></ul><ul><li>No professional body in India has achieved a meaningful professional development for its members. </li></ul><ul><li>Networking and effective partnership with Govt, other NGOS & Industry has not been achieved. </li></ul><ul><li>There is no common platform for various professional bodies in India. </li></ul>

Radiologic Technologists or Radiographers use their knowledge of Physics, Human Anatomy and Physiology to create permanent medical images to assist Physicians in diagnosing and treating disease or injury A Radiographer is a Technologist who deals directly with EQUIPMENTS and PATIENTS in order to produce radiological images. RADIOGRAPHY
