  1. 1. Giving the Gift of Music through three core Programs
  2. 2. Mission and Vision <ul><li>To serve the under resource, expand the inclusiveness of the arts. Serve to expand audience exposure by providing a youth orchestra, community outreach and an Annual Benefit Recital. </li></ul><ul><li>The Punch Family Foundation serves to reduce the barriers to music education. We want to increase diversity in the performing Arts. </li></ul>

Fact <ul><li>Success in the classical music profession requires many things: an early start, talent, and motivation; access to appropriate instruments and equipment, comprehensive training from excellent and dedicated teachers; enrichment activities, including attending concerts and participating in master classes and performances; family and peer support; and ongoing informed guidance tailored to each student's individualized needs. </li></ul>

  6. 6. Annual Benefit Recital <ul><li>The program serves as a funding source for subsidies and grants to music students. In June 2008 we added a Master class to this event. We had guest artist collaboration from Juilliard Alumni Ebony String Quartet and commissioned a work by an African American composer Gary Nash Ph. D. Fisk University. In 2009 we plan to extend this event and collaboration into a two week summer strings program. Uniquely designed to show case minority faculty members in the roles of teacher and mentor. Students at all levels will be welcomed and we like to offer this program without cost being a barrier. We are seeking a sponsor for this program. </li></ul>

  8. 8. Dallas Uptown Youth Orchestra <ul><li>Dallas Uptown Youth Orchestra (DUYO): Founded in August 2007 by Richmond Punch who is the Artistic Director. We offer orchestral experiences for musicians from 7-18. In season I, 2007-2008, we trained 30 musicians who were at beginners and intermediate levels. We educated the parents and the students, on various subjects instrument care to, Why Study Music and we offered our students group lessons as well as private lessons. We teach music theory to all levels. Over half of the students require tuition subsidies and assistance in securing instruments. </li></ul>
  9. 9. Season II DUYO Auditions and Recruitment
  10. 10. Outreach with a 1,2, Punch <ul><li>Community Outreach : Imagine explaining Opera in terms of life experiences in the projects. We explore the opera La Boehm, opera careers and how music is used in opera to tell a story and show the emotions of the character. The students enjoyed a game call name that emotion. Describing what a character is experiencing just by the sound of the music. This program can introduce disadvantage students to Opera. This program was presented in collaboration with the Dallas Housing Authority, other participants the Dallas Opera. </li></ul><ul><li>St Phillip Community School : Established a much need after school orchestra program for the 07 -08 school term. The school serves a large African American community in the hood at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. in Dallas Texas. The Punch Family Foundation offered an after school program when the school had no orchestral program. Students performed Christmas songs as well as Negro spirituals. We shared resources of the Dallas Uptown Youth orchestra including music and music stands. The program was organized and conducted by Richmond Punch on a weekly basis it ended May 2008. </li></ul><ul><li>The Underground Railroad : Presentation to students K-6 explaining the path to freedom and how music was used as communication to help slaves to find freedom. We presented this program in February 2007 during Black History Month to over 1000 public and private school; students. Richmond Punch provided the lecture and musical performance Gayle Punch was the voice of Harriet Tubman. This is a brief overview of what we have accomplished, we have stretched our resources to meet the needs of the under resourced in Dallas. </li></ul>
