  • Thank you for watching our technical overview presentation. Oliver Emmanuel, founder of Phybridge invented a solution specifically to solve a complex problem in a simple manner. It required out-of the box thinking to invent the Phybridge UniPhyer and thousands of customers have successfully moved to IP telephony without risk or disruption. To appreciated fully the value of the UniPhyer you must be willing to accept a paradigm shift in thinking, so lets get started.
  • To move forward we must understand how we started. Did you ever wonder who invented VoIP. Volco Tec invented VoIP primarily for residential market to reduce long distance calls. Cisco and other network manufactures introduced the methodology of layering voice on the data network. The industry under estimated the complexities of having a data network effectively support the real-time requirements of voice. This method truly benefited data switch manufactures given the dependency on the data network and Cisco quickly captured 20% of the IP telephony market. Unfortunately customers and providers continue to face the complexities and challenges of the method. The Phybridge UniPhyer is quickly turning the tide in favour of customer and those who serve them.
  • The reality of layering voice on data networks does create deployment and management complexities for both you and the customer. However this foundational dependency has allowed traditional data network manufacturers gain significant voice market share as you and your customers suffer the pains of having a distributed topology built for near-time delivery handle the real-time requirements of voice.
  • Let’s look at the service realities of this deployment method. Let’s say you are responsible for the IP voice solution for your customer and the data network is being managed by a different firm. Customer accept having to wait for data files to open but the first time they can’t understand the other person on the phone Users are quick to make a support call. Of course given the user is experiencing voice quality issues the first call is to the voice provider. All to often the root cause of the problem ends up being a network problem. Doesn&apos;t make sense does it.
  • It was a brilliant strategy – You introduce the value of IP telephony and UC to customers and they end up winning the deal because of the dependency. There are many challenges for both you and your company moving to IPT including every customers data network is different. Given the dependency of sales and deployment cycles tend to be longer. All too often IT members for both customers and providers have undue stress trying to ensure quality of service. Worst of all for many that have customers networks managed by a different provider you are held accountable for quality of service without having control of the foundation that is key to delivering on the promise. In fact a partner of ours indicated that 70% of the services calls end up to be LAN issues and not telephony issues. Worst of all they can’t charge the customer for the call.
  • There are customer barriers to adoption and we must understand the root cause of these barriers. In a recent study conducted by CDW of over 700 IT managers they found that many of the barriers to adoption are due to network requirements and not the telephony solution.
  • Let’s look at things from the customers perspective first and not what the Industry has forced on them as a standard. Customers want the value of UC and IPT driving a lower total cost of ownership for their communication platform and a better ROI. But they also want what they always had – That is voice quality of service, Highly reliable voice network, voice continuity even when the data network fails, no disruptions and easy to manage voice and data network. The reality of layering voice on an existing data network is that giving what the customer wants is questionable. What your going to learn about is a solution that delivers on what is most important to the customer. The value of UC and and optimized, easy to manage converged network.
  • So lets start from the foundation. The foundation of every local area network is the topology. The topology of voice and data networks are very different. Data topologies are distributed bases. Given the reach limitation of traditional network switches and the near-time requirements of data this topology was acceptable. The challenge is that no two data networks are alike, size creates complexity and the only constant in data traffic loads is change. The voice topology was designed specifically for the real-time requirements of voice. The point-to-point topology ensured that packets traveled in order, on time, without loss. This had much to do with the 5 nines reliability we come to expect from our voice network. In addition to quality of service and a highly reliable infrastructure, this topology is standard across every location. 50 users or 500 users, it’s always the same. This is why traditional voice providers had no problems in delivering on a good customer experience. Yet the industry has us abandoning a proven, simple infrastructure and layering voice requirements on a data network resulting in many complexities. Given ever changing network loads, a traditionally converged network does require a higher degree of management expertise and diligence to ensure a good user experience.
