  1. 1. INTRODUCTION TO ADJECTIVES1. Adjectives are generally descriptive words. They usually come before the nouns they describe. Examples: The blue car is mine (El cotxe clau és meu) That is a pretty flower (Aquesta és una bonica flor)2. Adjectives can also follow certain verbs. Examples: The pizza tastes delicious The flower smells nice Mary became angry when she heard the newsCOMPARATIVEWe use comparative adjectives to describe people and things:Examples: We need a bigger garden.1. The comparative of one or two syllable adjectives are formed by adding “-er” to the adjective. (Els comparatius dels adjectius amb una o dos síl·labes es formen afegint la terminació “-er” a l’adjectiu.) Examples: short  shorter poor  poorer PAY ATTENTION!!: - Adjectives ending with “-y” are formed into comparatives by changing the “-y” to an “-i” and adding “-er” Examples: happy  happier - Adjectives ending in “-le” frequently take “-er” Examples: gentle  gentler2. We use than when we want to compare one thing with another (Utilitzem than quan volem comparer una cosa amb una altra) Examples: She is two years older than me. He is a better player than Ronaldo. France is a bigger country than Britain.

Adjectives can be used to express equality with as + adjective + as Examples: This flower is as pretty as that one (Aquesta flor és tan bonica com aquella altre) My car is as fast as yours (El meu cotxe tan rapid com el teu)4. The comparative of adjectives with three or more syllables are formed by putting more before the adjective. (Els comparatius dels adjectius amb tres o més síl·labes es formen posant “more” abans de l’adjectiu.) Examples: significant  more significant intelligent  more intelligentSUPERLATIVES1. The superlative of one or two syllable adjectives are formed by adding “-est” to the adjective. (Els superlatius dels adjectius amb una síl·laba es formen afegint la terminació “-est” al adjectiu.) I have three sisters, Jan is the oldest and Angela is the youngest.SOME EXCEPTIONSSome adjectives do not follow the regular pattern.
