I f I look at one, I will”<br />-Mother Teresa<br />People are more likely to hear a call to action when they can help with one specific problem or person.<br />Trying to help fix a major problem is overwhelming to people, they feel at a loss as to what their contribution can provide.<br />You have to show people a tangible way they can contribute and most importantly make them want to participate!<br />But how?<br />

You have to make them care!<br />“For people to take action they HAVE TO CARE”<br />When people think analytically they are less likely to care or help as they are not tied to their emotional values.<br />In order for anything to be successful you have to tie in and relate to them on some emotional level.<br />People have to want to be involved! <br />

Save the Children!<br />The plight of poor children in the world pulls at the heartstrings of many.<br />It is overwhelming as how does one help all the starving millions of children in the world?<br />Save the children allows you to sponsor ONE child living in poverty… a tangible and small enough task for the average person.<br />They made people CARE and gave them a specific task they can participate in… millions of children worldwide have sponsors that send a monthly contribution to that not only helps that child but those around them.<br />

Making people care about the boring stuff…<br />It is far easier to tie into people’s emotions regarding starving children and war torn areas.<br />How do you make them care about far less desperate and sad issues?<br />How do you make them want to learn about algebra, the new software for work or how the ATP in our cells provides the energy our bodies need to function?<br />
  6. 6. Don’t think… just feel!<br />When you tap into peoples emotions you are much more likely to get a response!<br />Watching exhausting dance rehearsals won’t make someone want to dance.<br />Seeing the end result of a beautiful routine can stir emotions in perfect strangers… and a dance Mom.<br />

Avoid Semantic Stretch<br />It is a very common practice to tie new concepts to old ideas that evoke a response in people.<br />This can be effective but when overdone you get “semantic stretch” where the power of the old idea is diluted and no longer effective.<br />Long ago very few things were unique, now everything is. Personal Gain<br />If you want people to buy in emotionally, you have to tell them the following:<br />How it will benefit them<br />What will they gain by being invested in what you have to say<br />What bad may come from not taking an avid interest in what you have to offer<br />People have to be personally invested in order to peak their interest.<br />With the Shake Weight you can tone all of your muscles in just 6 minutes a day!... According to the people at Shake Weight that is.<br />

Identity<br />In order to make people care you have to tap into something they identify with….<br />Littering was an expensive problem for the state of Texas and they were unsure how to combat it…<br />They came up with the “Don’t mess with Texas, because Texans don’t litter” campaign to make Texans IDENTIFY littering as not being a very Texan thing to do<br />The littering rate dropped 72% in 5 years as people identified with the cause<br />

Prior Knowledge<br />Many times when we have something to share with others we forget that we have “prior knowledge” of the subject<br />We know why it is important but others outside of your cause/initiative do not<br />You have to present what you have to share keeping in mind that you have to SHARE all of what you know… make sure others fully understand its importance as you do!<br />Share your passion on the topic to inspire others to feel the same!<br />
