1. 1. Project Management Alaska Fly-Fishing Expedition

GROUP – D

BY

Keshani

Malindi

Chanaka

Reeza Fazily

 2. 2. Overview of the Case

President of Blue Note, Inc wanted to reward her top management team by taking them for the fly fishing adventure in Alaska

GAA (Great Alaska Adventures) has taken the responsibility to lead the project

Exercises of the case will be mainly focus on to the potential risks that are associated with the project

 3. 3. Partial Risk Profile for the Project
 4. 5. Major Risks Associated with the Project

1. Lose directions: The possibility that the vessel may get lost due to navigation errors or poor weather conditions may scare everyone on board.

2. Gas/Fuel Shortage: Fuel shortage due to inaccuracies of the amount of fuel needed for the boat journey or an unanticipated occurrence would result in serious issues

 5. 6. Cont’d…….

3. Extreme Weather: Extreme weather conditions, like worsening in weather may lead to crash of the air plane or capsize of the vessel and result in death of the travelers.

4. Sicknesses/Injuries: Individuals may go down with sicknesses due to long periods of travel or get poisoned from poisonous plants or fish, and people might injure themselves physically.

5. Bear Attacks: There is possibility of being attacked by bears that think they are being menaced it or if it is hungry which may cause life-threatening injuries.

 6. 7. Risk Assessment Matrix

Scale

1= Very Low

2= Low

3=Medium

4=High

5=Very High

 7. 8. Risk Assessment Matrix
 8. 9. Risk Assessment Matrix Cont’d….

Order---- > Detection, likelihood, impact

1. Lose direction

Detection of such an error is very hard to identify since nowadays people use and depend on electronic navigation devices to check directions. If such error occurs in the device it will be very hard to detect until the last moment.

Likelihood of happening is medium since these new navigation devices are very accurate and also GAA has experience river guides. But however there can be data input errors and network problems in the navigation system which might give totally wrong directions. And river guides may also find it difficult find directions manually with the climate.

Impact is very high since people on board are in great danger of getting lost which delay or even end the whole project.

 9. 10. Cont’d……

2. Gas/Fuel Shortage

This is easily identified since fuel/gas is very essential to ride the boat and there may be a meter to check as well.

This may not be GAA’s first trip, so experience in the past will make it easy to guess the required amount of fuel/gas. And also carrying extra fuel cans would reduce the probability of a shortage.

Impact would be high since travellers will be dissatisfied with the situation and also it will delay the project time.

 10. 11. Cont’d……

3. Extreme Weather

With new technology it is easy to predict weather conditions. But however it will not be 100% accurate and sudden changes in weather may occur.

Climate of Alaska is extremely cold which there can be sudden changes like snow storms, snow slides. These can occur suddenly and it is hard to predict.

Passengers have a high risk of losing their lives, injuries and also badly getting sick which could affect the whole project.

 11. 12. Cont’d…

4. Sicknesses/Injuries

This is also expected in a journey like this.

Sicknesses may occur due to the extreme cold climate and also there may be sudden injuries.

Impact would more delays on the project which also increase our cost.

5. Bear Attacks

This is rather easy to identify since bears often attack.

Even though there are bears in Alaska it is hard to certain that bears will attack travellers or not, unless it feels danger.

There will be life threatening injuries and delays to the project.
