Using UbD to Train University Professors to Use iclicker

  1. 1. Using i>clickers Step One: Order your instructor kit Click Here to go directly to the Higher Education Faculty Ordering Site @ iclicker.com.

Your i>clicker Instructor Kit Your instructor kit will come with: 1) USB Base Unit 2) Blue “Instructor” remote (with sticker) 3) USB Flash Drive 4) Cord to connect the Base to a computer USB port. *Click on Dr. Hootman below to hear a more detailed explanation of your instructor kit and connecting it to a computer.

Setting up i>clicker <ul><li>1) Locate the drive i>clicker is connected to on your computer. </li></ul><ul><ul><li>- My Computer on a Windows machine </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>- Finder/Icon on desktop on Mac Machine </li></ul></ul><ul><li>2) Open i>clicker folder for your operating system. </li></ul><ul><ul><li>- iclickerWin (Windows) </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>- iclickerMac (Mac) </li></ul></ul><ul><li>3) You are now ready to prepare i>clicker to be used in your courses. </li></ul>
  4. 4. Preparing to Use i>clickers in Class Watch this short video demo on preparing to use i>clickers in your courses.

Using i>clicker in Class <ul><li>1) Set your laptop or desktop computer to project on a large screen viewable by students </li></ul><ul><li>2) Open i>clicker (click on i>clicker icon) </li></ul><ul><li>3) Start i>clicker and select course (Small box will appear on top of computer screen) </li></ul><ul><li>4) Open powerpoint/document with polling questions (full screen on desktop) </li></ul><ul><li>5) Use instructor remote to (hands free) start/stop polling, navigate powerpoint slides/display response grid with student responses. You may also control i>clicker by using the mouse on your desktop or laptop. </li></ul>

Tracking Individual Student Responses <ul><li>1) You may import your class rosters from a Microsoft Excel file, or from various Course Management Systems, such as Blackboard . </li></ul><ul><li>2) With class rosters imported, students can register their i>clicker in your class with their name attached to their remote i.d. </li></ul><ul><li>3) Students can also register their personal i>clicker through the i>clicker website . </li></ul><ul><li>4) Set point values in i>clicker and track responses and scores in i>grader. </li></ul>
