  1. 1. MOBILE YOUTH NET PROJECT 0800 is the “toll-free” standard number in Brasil

Mobiles in Brasil Search: Teleco INTERNET Mobile Phone 14,5% of the households 68% of the households (120 millions) Classes A and B 80% pre-paid; 70% in classes C e D; 80% in the youth under 30 years old hands; High cost to installation and maintenance Even the cheapest models have SMS function Demands a time to learn how to use Everyone knows how to use

What is it? <ul><li>The Mobile YouthNet Project sends daily SMS opportunities on: </li></ul><ul><li>job opportunities </li></ul><ul><li>cultural and sports events </li></ul><ul><li>free courses </li></ul><ul><li>leisure activities </li></ul><ul><li>500 boys and girls from poor communities (favelas) in Brasil receive those SMS. </li></ul>

Step-by-step <ul><li>The Youth Net Program (Rede Jovem) establishes partnerships with community based organizations </li></ul><ul><li>Through these partnerships, young people apply to receive the service via selection process (see SWOT analysis) </li></ul><ul><li>Rede Jovem content team searches opportunities for the specific 0800 website </li></ul><ul><li>Opportunities are sent via SMS for registered users </li></ul><ul><li>Each boy/girl receives one message per day with job opportunities or free services (cultural, educational, health services) </li></ul>

What is the content? <ul><li>The messages received by the youth include information about: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>First job opportunities (without previous experience) </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Where you can practice sports for free </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Free courses and lectures agenda </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Free cultural events (concerts, theater, movies etc) </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Tips about where you can request documents for free </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Where you can do a medical exam for free </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Campaigns (DST/AIDS prevention, sexual and reproductive rights) </li></ul></ul>

What is the content? <ul><li>The information sent is: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Only about free events and opportunities </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Selected by state, city and neighborhood </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Selected by the chosen issue (job and culture, for example) </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>About opportunities that happen in a place close to where they live </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>About job opportunities according to their profile </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>About cultural events focused to youth </li></ul></ul>

Who are they? <ul><li>In the first phase of the project, were benefited: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>500 young people </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>17 to 24 years old </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>High School students (completed or in course) </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Residents from the chosen low income communities </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Those without Internet access </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Those that have a mobile phone </li></ul></ul>

What was done? <ul><ul><li>Partnership with 5 community based organizations </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>500 youngsters in the database, 100 from each place </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>56.763 sent messages in 6 months </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>3.520 opportunities submitted in the website </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>340 community based organizations contacted </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Website online and with national reach </li></ul></ul>

What are the results? <ul><ul><li>64% of the young people have already used the information from the messages (SMS) </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>From them, 30% used more than 5 times </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>93% considered the messages very useful </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>65% have already (re)sent the messages for other people </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>From them, 29% for more than 5 persons </li></ul></ul></ul>

What are the results? <ul><ul><li>47% already sent CVs to advertised vacancies or went to job interviews </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>From them, 56% did it more than 5 times </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>2.000 youngsters visit daily the Mobile Youth Net website, searching for opportunities </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>3.300 youngsters were benefited, directly or indirectly </li></ul></ul>
