  1. 1. How to Hit a Baseball and Run the Bases BY MATT ZUCHOWSKI
  2. 2. <ul><li>Americans have been playing baseball since the early 1800s. Baseball is based on the English game of rounders , played as early as 1744. I have played baseball since I was very young and didn't even know how to run the bases. My dad is the Easthampton baseball coach and has taught me lots of tips. </li></ul>Introduction

  4. 4. <ul><li>Pick up your bat. </li></ul>Grip the bat knuckle to knuckle. Step 1 Step 2
  5. 5. <ul><li>Step up to home plate. </li></ul>Line up both feet with the plate. One foot should be almost touching the front of the plate and one foot almost touching the back of the plate. Step 3 Step 4
  6. 6. <ul><li>Hold the bat above your shoulder farthest from the pitcher . Your top hand should be a few inches from your ear. </li></ul>Lean slightly away from the pitcher. Keep both feet planted on the ground. Step 6 Step 5
  7. 7. <ul><li>Look at the pitcher to show that you are ready for the pitch. </li></ul>Swing when the ball gets close to the home plate. Step 7 Step 8
  8. 8. HINT <ul><li>If you swing too early, wait to swing until the ball gets over the plate. </li></ul>If you swing too late, swing when the ball is in front of the plate instead of waiting until it crosses the plate.
  9. 9. <ul><li>Swing straight over home plate. </li></ul>Run to first base. If the ball is hit in the infield, stop. If the ball is hit in the outfield, run to second base. Step 9 Step 10
  10. 10. <ul><li>If you make it to second base and the ball has been thrown to the infield, stop. If it’s in the outfield then run to third base. </li></ul>Even if the ball is being thrown to home plate, sprint home and slide into home plate. Step 11 Step 12
  11. 11. <ul><li>Celebrate because you have just hit a homerun! </li></ul>Step 13
  12. 12. Now you know how to hit a baseball and run the bases. I hope these tips help you become a baseball player as good as I am. Conclusion
