1. 1. Mass Transportation
By:
Caroline Militello
&
Emelda Then
2. 2. What is Mass Transportation?
- Mass Transit/ Transportation is basically Public Transportation that a large amount of people can use It comprises passenger transportation services which are available for use by the general public.

The most standard types of public transportations around the world are: buses, trains and taxies.

- There aren’t enough passengers using the transportation systems.
- The station are not appealing nor are they spacious enough.
- There are not enough people using it.
- The Metro Link is not extended enough, in other words the destinations are very limited, as well as stations scattered everywhere.
- Some of the bus routes are currently closed.
- The buses cause air pollution.
The Current buses are bad for the environment (The are not eco-friendly and sustainable to our planet!!! :C)
What are the issues with the current Transportation System in St. Louis?
3. 3. One good reason to support Mass Transportation? Air Pollution!
Frequent climate changes starts occurring.
OZONE DAMAGE!
4. 4. The improvements of moving transit forward
-It promotes regional and economical development.
-It provides equal transit access to everyone.
-The region would be much more convenient.
- It would also improve service to low-income elderly and the disabled since the new project would be cost-effective
- Moving transit forward would help mitigate congestion and pollution.
5. 5. Statistics
-Our transportation needs produce 30% of all carbon dioxide gas emissions. One sure way to cure this is through the use of public transportation.
- Public transportation produces 95% less carbon monoxide and nearly 50% less carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxide per passenger mile than a private vehicle does.
- It is generally 79% safer to take a bus rather than driving your own vehicle and 40% of the U.S dependency on foreign oil would decrease if only 1 out of 10 Americans took public transportation.
6. 6. What the People think
-59 percent of survey respondents would prefer to see improvements in the public transportation system to ease traffic congestion.
-These improvements would include upgrades to train and bus systems, which will make walking and biking both easier and safer.
7. 7. Smart Cards Look pretty much like Credit Cards - There are often different prices and ratings for children, students, adults and seniors.- They could be used for trains, buses, taxis, and stores-It’s basically a substitute for constantly grabbing money out of your purse or pockets. Smart Cards are a convenience.
Asian countries uses the smart cards
They have different prices for children, students, adults and seniors
They can use them for trains, buses, taxis and stores
What are Smart Cards?
8. 8. How Can We Improve St. Louis’s Transportation Systems
A few Plan Components to improve St.Louis’sTransportation system!
- Improve the Safety of Metro Buses and Metro Links
- Expand the Metro Bus and Metro Link

Make sidewalks and bike paths

Being “Transit Friendly”
-Intensively developed areas within ¼- ½ mile of public transportation
-A distance comfortably walked in 5-10 minutes
-Using smart cards
