Wind Energy Potential in Morocco Morocco has an excellent wind potential mainly in the North & in the South : - Essaouira, Tangier & Tetouan with an annual average between 9.5 & 11 m/s at 40 meters. - Tarfaya, Taza & Dakhla with an annual average between 7.5 m/s & 9.5 m/s at 40 meters. Wind Potential of Morocco :• Total Potential : 7936 TWh/year (2645 GW)• Technical Potential : 4896 TWh/year (1632 GW)• Wind Atlas of Morocco published in 1986, 1995 and updated in 2008.• More than 50 measurements stations installed by CDER between 1990 & 2009

New Wind Atlas of Morocco• An international call of tenders will be launched in the next few months for preparation of a new wind atlas of Morocco with a high resolution• In two years, possibility to access to the new wind atlas of Morocco directly via the web• We can zoom on different regions of Morocco• We can change some parameters

Steps of feasibility studies• Choice of sites• Wind measurement (minimum one year)• Micro-siting (Configuration of windturbines in site) : with Wasp, Windpro, WindFarm softwares or others• Production estimation• Economic & Financial feasibility• Civil Work study• Grid integration study• Impact Environmental (Impact of the project around the site, visual impact, Noise, Photomontage & Carbon Credit)

Conclusion• Operation & maintenance of wind measurement stations is very important to have a good data because an increase of 50-75% of wind speed, increases of 300-500% the power PV = 0,37 V3 (PV : Power of wind in W/m2 V : Wind speed in m/s)• Necessary to follow up wind measurement stations by GSM systems• Each month, it’s necessary to visit measurement stations & verification of anemometers, windvanes, cables of masts, etc….• After collection of data, it’s necessary to make verification of all anemometers data to detect a possible any default
