Public Officials Are A Valuable Resource When Navigating a Catastrophic Loss Insurance Claim <ul><li>They can provide important information </li></ul><ul><ul><li>For example: </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>City of San Diego: Info. on debris removal, erosion control, variances, permits and other issues </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>CDI: Helpline available at 1(800)927-4357 </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><li>They can put pressure on the insurance industry </li></ul><ul><ul><li>CDI, State legislators, National legislators </li></ul></ul>

Post-2003 Wildfires: Enactment of the “Homeowner’s Bill of Rights”…a look back <ul><li>After the ’03 Wildfires, survivors from San Diego and San Bernardino “citizen lobbied” in Sacramento for legislative change </li></ul><ul><li>The legislative changes implemented in 2004 provided BOTH: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Current Help to ’03 Fire Survivors: Extension of the CDI Mediation Program to Wildfire Loss Cases, AND </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Help to Future Disaster Survivors: Extension of ALE Benefits, Extension of Time to Rebuild/Replace and Policy Renewal Assurances </li></ul></ul>

THERE IS STRENGTH IN NUMBERS! <ul><li>As a group…the 2007 Firestorm Survivors…you have CLOUT! </li></ul><ul><li>You have every right to ask your elected officials any or all of the following: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>TO HELP SOLVE THE PROBLEMS YOU ARE NOW FACING; </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>TO FIX THESE PROBLEMS FOR THE FUTURE; </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>TO ASK WHY THESE PROBLEMS STILL EXIST AFTER 2003, (e.g., How did THEY vote on homeowner’s insurance reform measures in 2004 and 2005?) </li></ul></ul>
