WARE, Esq., F.R.C.V.S., Chief Superintendent, Civil Veterinary Department, to the Secretary to Government, Development Department, Madras, dated the 23rd July 1923, D. Dis. No. 650-A. I have the honour to forward herewith the annual administration report of the Civil Veterinary Department, Madras, including that of the Madras VeterinaryCollege, for the year ending 31st March 1923. ENCLOSURE Annual Administration Report of the Civil Veterinary Department, Madras Presidency, for the year 1922-23. I.—ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF. (a) Imperial Officers. Mr. F. Ware held charge of the office of Chief Superintendent throughout the year under report, and acted as Principal, Madras Veterinary College, in addition to his own duties from 30th June to 4th November 1922 during the absence of Mr. Aitchison on leave. He was unable to tour while holding charge of the College but during the remainder of the year spent 107 days out of headquarters, travelled 6,652 miles by rail and 1,116 by road. 2. He visited 8 districts, inspecting the offices of the Superintendent, I Division, and Deputy Superintendent, I Circle, at Vizagapatam, the Veterinary Inspectors at Trichinopoly, Guntur, Coimbatore and Vellore, the Veterinary institutions at Coonoor, Tanjore, Tiruvalur, Negapatam, Kumbakonam, Saidapet, Guntur, Vizagapatam, Coimbatore, Erode and Ranipet and the Touring Veterinary Assistants at Gudalur, Ootacamund, Tiruvalur, Coimbatore, Kavali and Ranipet. He selected Telugu students fur the Madras Veterinary College at Bezwada, inspected the sites selected for the quarters of the Touring Veterinary Assistant, Gudalur and Veterinary hospitals at Negapatam and Kumbakonam, supervised the serum simultaneous inoculations performed against rinderpest at three camps in the Nilgiris during April and May 1922 and at Coimbatore and Chintaladevi in 1923, attended an outbreak of Black Quarter amongst the young stock belonging to the Madras digital.nls.uk/indiapapers/browse/pageturner.cfm?id=75699784&mode=transcription 4/6

He also attended the Tiruppur Show, was a delegate to the 2nd Imperial Veterinary Conference held at Calcutta, and a member of the Retrenchment Committee which sat on the Madras Agricultural and Veterinary Services. He acted as an Examiner in Animal Hygiene at the B. Se. Agriculture Examinations at Coimbatore, and was on the Board of Examiners for both the post-graduate course and annual professional examinations of the Madras Veterinary College. 3. Mr. P. T. Saunders held charge of the office of Superintendent, I Division, Vizagapatam, from the 8th July 1922 until the 28th March 1923, when he proceeded to the Muktesar Laboratory to undergo a course of training for three months. He was on tour in his division for 31 days, travelling 4,032 miles by rail and 462 by road. He conducted serum simultaneous inoculations at Chintaladevi and Samalkot and served as an Examiner for the post-graduate course at the Madras Veterinary College.
