2. 2. MOBILE COMPUTING

 INTRODUCTION

MOBILE COMPUTING is a generic term describing your ability to use technology to wirelessly connect to and use centrally located information.
 3. 3. Two categories

Portable computing

mobility computing

Portable computing actually refers to wired communication. Moveable for small area.

Mobility computing is true wireless communication. Movable ,Accessed from anywhere.

 4. 5. USAGE OF MOBILE COMPUTING

First used in vehices .

Cell phones are another rampant proliferation of mobile computing today.

Every single cell phone is a computer in its own right.

Blue tooth and MMS has brought cell phone users closer .

 5. 6. ADVANTAGE OF MOBILE COMPUTING:

In built wireless capabilities

One of the primary reasons is cost.

wireless capacity is so inexpensive

 6. 7. Optimized interactive images and graphics for the wireless web
 7. 8. Mobile Image software:

Automatically optimizes the image.

This software uses 'Just-In-Time' image delivery.

Uses proprietary data streaming and caching technology to serve the images.

Provides scalability -- capable of supporting thousands of simultaneous users.

Maps overlaid with information on traffic .

 8. 9. Mobile Image software:

Real time stock charts with links to news and buy/sell functions .

Photographs of products /Drawings of floor plans for purchasing Real Estate.

It can be used for Peer-to-Peer applications like the exchange of "photo“.

 9. 10. Riding the Wireless Internet Revolution

The number of Internet users over wireless links is expected to grow from 4 million today to over 58 million by the year 2006.

In the U.S. there will be 21.3 million mobile data users by the end of 2001.

In Japan, DoCoMo is adding roughly 1 million wireless Internet subscribers for each month.

 10. 11. Image Engine Framework
 11. 12.

A given image is processed and represented as child Image objects using an ImageLOD data model.

Imagetranscoding and adaptation.

Working on different protocols - HTML, HDML, WAP, Palm OS, Pocket PC,etc.

Working on different network technologies – CDMA, CDPD, GSM, etc.

Capable of handling different image/graphic file formats - JPEG, GIF, PNG, WBMP, BMP, etc.

 12. 14. Translation:

The translation methods convert the image objects to different formats, sizes, color depth, compression and scale.

The slicer methods generate different hierarchical sections of the original image.

Both this methods can be cascaded to change the fidelity of the images.

 13. 15. Architecture

Administration Console: provides the ability to control device and user profiles.

ImageLOD Representation

Content Analysis: Analyze the inter-relationship between different sections of the content.

Transformation: progressive image representation with color depth, scaling factor.

 14. 16.

Content Customization: These modules customize the content based on the user interests.

The architecture is based on a Proxy or Network Server paradigm.

A set of JavaBeans, which provides the most flexible configuration.

 15. 18. Advantage of image engine:

Image Engine propels businesses to the second wave of the Internet .

Image Engine helps make accessing content across the Wireless Internet quicker, easier , delivering only what you need.

Image Engine helps make communication across the Wireless Internet more targeted, convenient and personalized.

 16. 19. CONCLUSION:

By bringing together powerful image handling capabilities into a robust and versatile standards-neutral architecture, the Image Engine imaging application platform is intended to help propel business possibilities to a whole new level of experiences in the pervasive computing environment.
