RapidMiner: Introduction To Rapid Miner

 1. 1. RapidMiner5
2.1 Introduction to RapidMiner5
2. 2. What is Data Mining ??
Wikipedia: Data mining is the process of extracting patterns from data. Data mining is becoming an increasingly important tool to transform this data into information. It is commonly used in a wide range of profiling practices, such as marketing, surveillance, fraud detection and scientific discovery.
3. 3. Data Mining with RapidMiner5
RapidMiner (formerly Yale):
Is an environment for machine learning and data mining processes.
Follows a modular operator concept which allows the design of complex nested operator chains for a huge number of learning problems.
Allows for the data handling to be transparent to the operators.
4. 4. Data Mining with RapidMiner5
RapidMiner introduces new concepts of transparent data handling and process modeling which eases process configuration for end users.
5. 5. Data Mining with RapidMiner5
Additionally clear interfaces and a sort of scripting language based on XML turns RapidMiner into an integrated developer environment for data mining and machine learning.
6. 6. Getting RapidMiner
1. Download RapidMiner from the link www.rapid-i.com
7. 7. Getting RapidMiner
8. 8. Getting RapidMiner
3. The download page: Download the file for your system
9. 9. Getting RapidMiner
4. Installing RapidMiner5:
Double click on the setup file and the wizard will direct you:
10. 10. Getting RapidMiner
Accept the license Agreement
11. 11. Getting RapidMiner
Specify the directory for your installation
12. 12. Getting RapidMiner
13. 13. Getting RapidMiner
Wait till the wizard prompts you that the installation is complete. Click Next.
14. 14. Getting RapidMiner
Click ‘Finish’
15. 15. Running RapidMiner5
Double click on the icon on your Desktop
16. 16. Memory Usage
Since performing complex data mining tasks and machine learning methods on huge data sets might need a lot of main memory, it might be that RapidMiner stops a running process with a note that the size of the main memory was not sufficient.
Java does not use the complete amount of available memory per default and memory must be explicitly allowed to be used by Java.
17. 17. Plugins
In order to install RapidMiner Plugins, it is sufficient to copy them to the lib/plugins subdirectory of the RapidMiner installation directory. RapidMiner scans all jar files in this directory.
Its also possible to make you own plugins for RapidMiner5! We shall learn about that in forthcoming tutorials.
18. 18. Supported file formats
RapidMiner can read a number of input les. Apart from data files it can read and write models, parameter sets and attribute sets.
