  1. 1. Functions of a Voice over<br />A voice over is a film technique used in trailers to anchor the meaning of the text on screen. Create tension and atmosphere to connote the genre/ ambiance of the film. Used a lot in American Cinema.<br />
  2. 2. What does a voice over sound like?<br />As seen in the trailers smurfs and green lantern.<br />The voice over artist is American has a very masculine theatrical deep voice.<br />This is distinctive to audiences and therefore associate it with films and trailers they have seen.<br />
  3. 3. What does it tell Audiences?<br />Often used in trailers to inform audiences of key release dates.<br />Story lines and character information.<br />

What effect does this have?<br />The voice over will anchor the text and moving images on screen which reinforces their importance to audiences.<br />This helps to build tension up though trailers do not follow a linear narrative, the voiceover will act as a bridge from one part of the story to another. <br />

The Smurfs analyzed<br />Voiceovers in Smurfs are used to represent the target audience. <br />The target audience for Smurfs are young children, a voice over is used for them to understand what the moving images represent.<br />The theatrical deep American voice is familiar used for similar Hollywood movies.<br />The voiceover creates and informs the audience of the narrative anchoring the moving images on screen.<br />
