  1. 1. WELLCOME to “GHEORGHE MAGHERU ” School, Caracal, Romania !
  2. 2. <ul><li>Our school was set up on January 1-st 1962, by name General S chool no.5. The school was one of most beautiful buildings in the center of town, next to a wonderful natural park “Constantin Poroineanu” . </li></ul>

  4. 4. <ul><li>Since September 1-st 1994 our school has been working in a new building situated in the south-west part of the town, Radu Calomfirescu S treet, no.7. Ever since it has been c a lled “Gheorghe M agheru”, </li></ul><ul><li>a general and political man (1802-1880). </li></ul>
  5. 5. The school has got 16 classrooms, info laboratory s with 50 computers, a library with 1 2 500 books, a sports hall, a psycho room.
  6. 6. <ul><li>It is a state school with 9 primary forms (pupils 7-11 ages) timetable 8-12.30 a. m. and 11 gymnasium forms (pupils aged 11-15) timetable 13-19. </li></ul>
  7. 7. <ul><li>39 teachers provide education for the pupils in our school. They study Romanian, Mathematics, History, Geography, Physical education, Arts, Useful skills and Technology. When they are 9 years old, they study English and when they are 12 years old, they study English and French. </li></ul>
  8. 8. <ul><li>School festivals are being organized on various occasions: “Santa Claus is coming”(on Cristmas Day), “Mother’s Day”(8th March), “Children’s Day”(1-st June), “Europ e ’s Day” (9 May). </li></ul>
  9. 9. <ul><li>There are other competitions too, such as: Kangouroo, Winners, Euro-junior, Proeducation, Mathematics and all-around education. Every year we organize trips in Romania, we visit museums, exhibitions, historical places. </li></ul>
  10. 10. <ul><li>We have European </li></ul><ul><li>cooperation concerns and </li></ul><ul><li>deal with Socrates- Comenius </li></ul><ul><li>projects: in 2001-2003 – </li></ul><ul><li>“ Des sciences et des techniques </li></ul><ul><li>comme moyen de communication” </li></ul><ul><li>and in 2003-2006 - </li></ul><ul><li>“ Des tables en tables ”, having </li></ul><ul><li>school parteners from France, </li></ul><ul><li>England and Spain. </li></ul><ul><li>On this ocassion some teachers </li></ul><ul><li>and pupils from our school </li></ul><ul><li>visited the partener schools, and </li></ul><ul><li>teachers from Spain payed us a </li></ul><ul><li>visit our school. Our mascot – Ecolino calusar <ul><li>The calusari (pronounced &quot;kurl-oo-shah&quot;) is a traditional Romanian folk dance which bears a close resemblance to the English morris dance and originally derives from Southern Romania , Oltenia . The word &quot;calusari&quot; means &quot;horse men&quot;. The dance is thought to be derived from a pre-Christian fertility ritual and is said to bring luck, health and happiness to the villages in which it is danced. Dancers wear white trousers and white tunics, with brightly coloured ribbons streaming from their hats. </li></ul>
