  2. 2. <ul><li>Hydrogen peroxide has been advocated to boost livewell oxygen and as an emergency additive in case of livewell pump failure. </li></ul><ul><ul><li>See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-zfXwLNp_o </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Light, heat, and organic matter causes hydrogen peroxide to breakdown. </li></ul><ul><ul><li>For every two molecules that breakdown, one oxygen molecule is formed. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>The greater the water temperature and organic matter (algae, fish, etc.), the faster the breakdown of hydrogen peroxide and creation of oxygen molecules in the livewell. </li></ul></ul>
  3. 3. <ul><li>Effectiveness of hydrogen peroxide for increasing oxygen in livewells was evaluated at Falcon Reservoir using three bass boats. </li></ul><ul><li>A total of 12 one-hour experiments were conducted with oxygen level measured every 10 minutes. </li></ul><ul><li>Livewell recirculation systems in each boat were on and water was replaced for each experiment. </li></ul><ul><li>Five fish limits of largemouth bass weighing from 7.9 to 22.8 pounds were present in livewells during the experiments. </li></ul><ul><li>Hydrogen peroxide was added at the recommended rate of 1 ounce per 3 gallons of livewell capacity. </li></ul>
  4. 4. <ul><li>Testing at Falcon showed that livewell oxygen increased 40% 10 minutes after adding hydrogen peroxide. </li></ul><ul><li>However, this increase was short-lived, with oxygen returning to initial level within 30-50 minutes. </li></ul>
