Want to know when to shop for Momthis year?• We looked at the frequency and depth of mom-related sales across 21 large,US retailers, including:– Ann Taylor, Bloomingdale’s, Macy’s, Talbot’s, Pottery Barn, Victoria’sSecret, Crate & Barrel and Williams-Sonoma, among others• We focused on sales on:– Women’s clothing, jewelry, handbags, accessories, beauty, home andgarden items• We reviewed sales beginning 2 weeks before Mother’s Day in both 2011 and2012• We collected our information from retailers’ marketing emails, websitelanding pages, Twitter and Facebook feeds2
It’s okay to procrastinate…we found that Mother’sDay weekend is the best time to buy!• In both 2011 and 2012, the highest number of sales and the deepest salediscounts occurred on Mother’s Day weekend itself– In 2011, sales peaked on Mother’s Day Sunday, with 91% of retailersadvertising sales with an average sale depth of 32% off– In 2012, the sales peaked the Saturday right before Mother’s Day, with91% of retailers advertising sales with an average sale depth of 30% off• In both years, a large number of sales were also advertised about a week-and-a-half before Mother’s Day– In some cases, this coincided with the deadline to receive free shippingfor online purchases in time for the big day• But, this wasn’t necessarily the best time to buy!• We found that deepest sale discounts outside of Mother’s Day weekenditself occurred the Mon & Tues in the week leading up to the holiday• But, you may have to pay a bit extra for shipping for go to the storeto enjoy these savings! 3
